78 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2023 Farewell to Friends Stephen Katz It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our neighbor and friend Stephen Katz. Stephen passed after a gallant battle with throat cancer. Stephen lived in Four Seasons with his beloved wife Aundrea since 2018. Born and raised in New York City, Stephen is best known for his lifetime work in the audio and recording industry. He was an accomplished and ground-breaking sound engineer. His entry into the recording industry started with work on the hit song Walk Away Renee by the group Left Banke. That project blossomed into a lifetime career, working on very high profile audio engineering projects. Stephen eventually made his way to Hollywood where he and four other colleagues were recruited to work as Dolby consultants on films such as the first Star Wars, Close Encounters of the First Kind, A Star is Born, and Altered State. It was this work that won him an Academy Award in 1979. He was especially proud of his work with Barbra Streisand. In 1988, Stephen married the love of his life, Aundrea. They made a life together in the Los Angeles area. In 2018, they made their way to Four Seasons Beaumont, where he lived until his death. Stephen was a regular contributor to the Breeze. Stephen was buried on Aug. 11 at the Sunny Slope cemetery in Beaumont next to Aundrea. His family and friends were present for the funeral. Ed Paules, born February 11, 1942, passed away at home on August 3, 2023, after more than a three year battle with mouth cancer. Ed leaves behind Barbara, his wife of 55 years, his two children Gregory and Amanda, his daughter-in-law Angela and grandchildren RJ and Zoe. Ed also leaves behind two siblings, Marian and Sam. Ed was born and raised in New Jersey. He and Barbara met as children in Sunday school at the church where Ed's father was the pastor. Ed graduated from Muhlenberg College and served three years of active duty and three years of reserve duty in the U.S. Navy. After completing his military service, Ed simultaneously pursued his MBA from The Wharton School, and Barbara, who was attending Drexel University across the street. After driving her to school every day for two years, Ed and Barbara were happily married and eventually had their two children. Ed spent his 50 year career as a finance executive, working primarily as a Risk Manager for banks in New York, Chicago, Boston, Columbia, and Miami. After retiring in 2015 and moving to Four Seasons, Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his children, and contributing actively to the community by serving on the Board of Directors, the Planning Committee, and the Architectural Review Committee. He also participated in the Writers Group, Ballroom Dancing Group, and the Choral Group. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
