FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2023 59
Taste d'Vine Wine Club is excited to announce the
upcoming annual Temecula Bus Trip, Oct. 18 and 25. We will
be visiting Peltzer, Falkner, and Bel Vino Wineries. There will
be a catered lunch provided at Falkner Winery. Look for a
separate Bacchus Letter that will be sent out providing all the
details of the trip.
The club meeting this month will be hosted by long-time
wine club presenter Heidi Daniels. She has provided our club
with some outstanding wines in the past and this time will
not be any different. All her presented wines will be available
for purchase.
Four Seasons resident Mariano Hawk, who is a manager
for Union Pacific Railroad, will give our club an insight to
the operations of the largest train companies in America. ~

Paddle Tennis history: Part I
EARLY ORIGINS: Paddle tennis was
first played in the winter of 1928-1929 in
Scarsdale, New York. The sport was created
by Fessenden Blanchard and James Cogswell,
who sought a way to play tennis during the
winter season. They modified the rules and
equipment to make it suitable for smaller
courts and colder weather.
GROWTH IN POPULARITY: Paddle tennis gained popularity in the
1930s and 1940s, primarily in the Northeastern U.S. The smaller court
size and heated courts made it more accessible during winter months.
It also became popular in private clubs where many courts were built.
ORGANIZED ASSOCIATIONS: In 1938, the American Platform Tennis
Association (APTA) was founded to promote and govern the sport.
The APTA established standardized rules and organized tournaments,
helping to further popularize paddle tennis.
Our group welcomes new players. Welcome back, Steve Hovey. Our
players continue to LOVE this sport. We also have tennis and pickleball
players in our group. Wanna try us out? Email me at ecgallegos@
