| LIFE IN SOLERA | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 43 GOLF CLUB Jim Parker had this to say about our most recent outing in August, "Kudos to Bob Umeck for winning the Low Gross (81). Congrats also to Dave Sampson for winning the Low Net A Flight with a net 71, and to Ernie Salvador, for winning the B Flight, with a net 69. Stu Osborne's short game was masterful today. He smoked us all by taking only 30 putts. Special recognition goes out to first-timer Marilyn Tolen, who finished third in the B flight with a net score of 75. Very nice!" In the last week of the month of July, the game was a Foursome, Two Best Balls, Net. Parker's weather analogy was pretty spot-on with this quip, "The only thing hotter than the weather today was the foursome of Alan Forbes-Mark Hardy-Gary Hardy-Craig Martin. They scorched us all with net 126 (-18)." Our club usually plays a Closest to the Pin (CP) Contest on the Par 3s. Results were: No. 3 Stu Osborne 7'-2", No. 6 Mark Hardy 4'- 0", No. 11 Tom Hamerla 4'- 9", & No. 16 Ray Smith 11'- 10". Winning the Four-Man Shamble on July 18th was Alan Forbes, Stu Osborne, Mark Hardy, and Gary Hardy with a 124. CP results were No. 3 Forbes 6'-1", No. 6 Bill Lufkin 11'- 6", No. 11 Jerry Stearn 5'-11", & No. 14 Mag Magdaleno 11' – 0." As we started out July's stretch of games, Three Clubs and a Putter (AKA Four Clubs), Low Gross was won by Dave Scott with a 76. Richard Crowe's 68 won Low Net. CP's winners were Armand Silva 2'5", Scott pick up two CP's with 6" & 14'2", and Osborne wrapped up the last par 3 with a 15-footer. Impressive in this game that besides Scott with his 76, Forbes joined him with a 77 for the only sub-80 rounds using only four clubs!
