| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15
Our July and August meetings were held in the lovely home/
gardens of members, Karen and Gene Hikel, and Roberta
Feigenbaum and Mary Reyna. Complete with vegetable gardens,
grape arbors, fruit trees, (that would be fig trees for Roberta and
Mary) and beautiful blooms, their sanctuaries exude feelings of
tranquility and "green thumbness." If you're wondering what to
plant in your sanctuary and what's possible within limited spaces,
spend some time with us and let your imagination take over!
August 31 took us south to cooler temperatures where we
visited a one of a kind Hybrid Plumeria Nursery in Encinitas.
e proprietor of this unique destination works very closely with
Plumeria growers in Hawaii to create beautiful blooms, which will
be for sale. We will also be including Quail Gardens in Encinitas
on this trip, with plans for lunch along the coast.
Although climate zones differ from coastal San Diego to Hemet,
they are both of Mediterranean classification. With San Diego
being more arid than typical Mediterranean climates, much of
what our members purchase along the California coast do well in
our climate here in Hemet. Placement of choice flora and fauna,
lending adequate shade can create a tropical feel without much
effort.
As of this writing, the location of September's meeting on the
11th is yet to be determined. Sharing gardening tips, traveling
together, learning from each other, and cultivating forever
friendships are the blooms growing in our gardens. Late Bloomers
meets every second Monday of the month at 1 pm, usually followed
by an excursion planned later in the month.
All residents are welcome to attend meetings and trips. For
more information, please contact Sharon Deuber at (760) 500-
