8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2023 | Library Committee September is an important month for Four Seasons this year. It's the 20th Anniversary of our beautiful community! e HOA Board, staff, residents, committees, and clubs will be celebrating this occasion on Sat., Sept. 23. More information will be sent out by e Lodge staff describing the event. Your Four Seasons Library will be celebrating, too! It took a while to get the library initially conceptualized and stocked with some books donated by new homeowners. We owe thanks to Hal Townend and Cookie Scott for bringing the library to life. Cookie brought together other interested residents to form the first library committee. She continued working with the library for 18 years, guiding its development into the beautifully organized facility it is today. I am honored to carry on Cookie's legacy as the current Chairperson of the hardworking, dedicated volunteer Four Seasons Library Committee. Inset is a picture of an early book collection hanging on the back library wall. at collection of donated books was pretty sparse. If you have visited the library lately, you will find almost full shelves of hardcover fiction on the le side, plus audio books, CDs, and books written by some of our resident authors underneath. Now there are lovely, nearly-full cabinets on the right side under the mural. Paperback fiction fills the top of these cabinets; non-fiction and other book categories (see labels) are inside. ese cabinets and the furniture were added over the years, making the library a more functional, inviting place. e open- space puzzle cases were added during the recent pandemic, much to the continuing delight of the residents. ere's a rotating magazine rack, plus a wall rack in back for National Geographics, as well. I can't emphasize oen enough that ALL of the materials in the library have been donated by YOU, the residents. is truly is YOUR library. If you haven't visited the library recently, or at all, use the occasion of the 20th anniversary celebration to do so. e Library Committee will be hosting an open house and answering questions on Sept. 23. We, also, will have a special commemorative and reading appropriate gi for each resident who visits. Note that no food is allowed in the library. Start by coming to visit us on the patio outside the library's back door. We're excited to meet and greet you! ~ Betty Crase Facilities Committee As a new member on the Four Seasons Hemet Facilities Committee, I'd like to say a couple of words about my first impressions. Being a new member, I keep learning new things about the procedures of the Committee and the multitudes of equipment, our facility areas and projects. All the members are very thoughtful, knowledgeable and articulate. ey come from different parts of the country, bringing a wide variety of expertise. ese members are all exceptionally dedicated people who truly care about the wellbeing of this community and take this business very seriously. is committee is made up of volunteers who take pride in their role. Every effort is made to arrive at the least expensive and/or the most cost-effective solution to the projects we face. is committee's work has resulted in saving the association a lot of money. Many other homeowners' associations employ paid staff to do the same work we do. We are proud of all of our accomplishments and do everything to keep the association's expenses to a minimum. e result: our community looks great and a pleasant place to live. Following the formalities of a committee, our chairperson is a liaison to the Board of Directors. We review the previous meeting's minutes and vote to approve them. en we address the past and present items on the Agenda. e Chairperson conducts the meeting and during discussion, allows everyone to offer their opinion to the problem at hand. e members are encouraged to speak up and they know that "there are no bad ideas". All ideas that move forward are checked and evaluated. A very important part of our activity is keeping track of the condition of all our equipment, buildings and monitoring the ongoing projects. Contracts, work orders and proposals are monitored carefully. Reserve expenditures are planned far ahead. One of the most visible projects is the road maintenance. We carry out inspections, report conditions, and hire contractors to repair our roadways. is is an endless ongoing process. So, aer all these things mentioned about the Facilities Committee, we recommend you consider volunteering. If one wants to help, be involved, make stronger ties with this community and learn what "keeps the ship afloat," this is the committee for you. ~ Ivan Jureczky, Facilities Member
