16 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | OCTOBER 2023 By Clare Mendez, Resident e pool is open! e pool table(s) that is. Come on in and give it a try. Billiards is played indoors where the temperature is controlled and there are no flies, mosquitos or gnats to drive you crazy. It's played no matter what the weather is outside. Rain? Who cares? Steaming hot days and very cold ones? No problem either. Every day is a good day to pick up a cue stick and play some billiards. On Wednesday mornings at 10 am (9:30 am warm-up) the women play. We call ourselves "Side Pocket Sisters", and on ursday nights at 5 pm (4:30 pm warm-up) it's co-ed. e tables are usually reserved from 12 to 3 pm, but if there is an open table for you to practice on, you are welcome use it. What are you waiting for? An invitation? Well, this is it. is is your open invitation to come inside and enjoy the company of others. Before getting started, you should read the rules and regulations hanging on the wall and ask someone to show you some basics such as racking the balls, using the round cloth piece to prevent damage to the surface when breaking, and maybe even get an impromptu lesson. I have never met anyone from Solera who isn't willing to teach you how to play their game of choice. We are all living our best life, enjoying the company of others, and having some laughs along the way. As for the residents who have stepped away from the game for a while, see if it fits into your schedule now. We'd love to see you. Billiards winners below: Billiards Diana Carofano & Ken Barratt Randy Daniels John Schunn & Bob Larson Diana Carofano & Pat Sivalingam Carmen Busic & Pat Sivalingam Side Pocket Sisters Tournament At right: Donna Burgett finished second and Linda Gordon was the winner
