| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2023 | 37 e RV Club trip to Lake Tahoe had been more than a year in the planning. It's a long drive in an RV and many members took three days to get to Lake Tahoe. Several spent the first night in Lone Pine, in the Eastern Sierras and spent time exploring the Old Western movie museum and the movie locales in the Alabama Hills along with a visit to Manzanar National Monument. A nice surprise on the next day's travel was a herd of wild Tule elk grazing alongside the highway. e next night was spent in Lee Vining, allowing a visit to the nearby Mono Lake Visitor Center and an early evening docent walking tour of the lakeside fauna, surrealistic calcium-carbonate Tufa towers and the Brine shrimp. en climbing over scenic mountain passes and down into South Lake Tahoe. Hilary decided to visit Tahoe at about the same time, leaving some raindrops in her path. ey were able to cross the lake on a 50s-built cabin cruiser to explore the Vikingsholm summer house - a grand manor of Scandinavian medieval design, furnished with reproductions of antique furniture and decor. ey were able also to visit the Tallac Historical Site and Baldwin House to get a sense of the historical development of the area. A bear was meandering along the path too! ey also swayed on the Scenic Heavenly Gondola which brought them to a summit providing spectacular views of the lake. Several brave souls also zip-lined at 9,000 altitude which got the adrenalin flowing! A day trip by bus to funky and historic Virginia City included a scenic railroad ride, shopping, exploring and lunch. Meanwhile, back at camp, they had a catered Western BBQ. Another night was a "Potato Bar" with all the fixings. Everyone was asked to bring a decorated potato and the crowd really got into it with very creative and fanciful designs. A fun night. Free time for golf, socializing and exploration and hiking was welcome. A musical event at the Valhalla boat house and an "escape room" adventure were some evening activities. e farewell dinner was a great night aboard the paddle wheeler "MS Dixie" with fine food, scenic views, sunset and a wonderful band to entertain them. Upcoming trips are the Albuquerque Balloon Festival in Mid- October and the Nov. 6-10 anksgiving trip in Hemet. Next Club meeting in the Hall will be Oct. 24 with social time at 6:30 pm and regular meetings at 7 pm. RV Club
