| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2023 | 5 In the month of August, we found ourselves delving into a thorough evaluation of an increased number of citations issued for two crucial facets: Open garage doors and instances of overnight guests without an active pass. A total of 121 citations have been documented for open garage door violations. A gentle reminder that a garage door, when inactive, is permissible to be ajar by 18 inches; outside of active use, its secure closure remains imperative. Subsequent allegations within a 12-month period will result in a hearing before the CRC. If the alleged violations are determined to be true, the violations can be fined $25 per citation. Furthermore, an influx of sightings involving coyotes and Bobcats underscores the urgency of safeguarding both pets and garage sanctuaries during summer. In the month of August, we documented 20 total violations. Overnight parking is defined as parking a vehicle on a driveway, street, or parking lot at any time between 2 and 6 am. Such parking is prohibited without an active overnight pass. We are also seeing an uptick in guests who are staying overnight without an active overnight pass for many months. Temporary, overnight residency as a resident's guest, by persons under 55 years of age, is limited to no more than 90 days in a 12-month period unless extended by the Board. e violation can be reduced to a warning, as determined by the CRC. Subsequent violation citations within 12 months can result in a fine of $35 per citation. Stop sign violations are on the rise as well. CPS, on average, records 12 stop sign violations a month. In the month of August, this average increased to 21 total violations. e first allegation of a non-moving traffic violation may generally result in a warning. Subsequent allegations within a 12-month period will result in a hearing before the CRC. Moving violation citations issued to a first-time offender may result in a hearing before the CRC. e violation can be reduced to a warning, as determined by the CRC. Subsequent moving violation citations within 12 months will generally result in fines. For stop sign violations, the current listed amount for a fine is $75 per offense. An additional area of considerable concern pertains to pedestrian safety, encompassing individuals who traverse roadways on the non-designated side of the street and those exposed to potential hazards posed by electric bikes (e-bikes) and golf carts operating within the designated pedestrian-only lanes. e handbook specifically states that the pedestrian lane is to be utilized by walking pedestrians only. Any continuous use of the pedestrian lane in any sort of vehicle, including electric bicycles, single and multiple-rider golf carts, are strictly prohibited. Ensure that if you or your guests are utilizing any sort of motorized vehicle within the community, that you take careful consideration to ensure the safety and well-being of all pedestrians and uphold our commitment to responsible transportation practices. ank you for your time.
