It is that time to bring out the pumpkins, make popcorn balls, and decorate with Halloween in mind. October is a busy month for themed parties and get-togethers in the Clubhouse. We combined our Flea Market sellers with our resident craers for a Fall Festival on Sat., Oct. 21 from 9 am to 1 pm. e Garden Club is hosting a hot dog lunch, along with a variety of plants/pots for sale on the Palm Court. is event is perhaps one of the best activities in OHCC, as so many look forward to finding that special treasure. We have heard that the items sold each year will then appear on a neighbor's coffee table, and the circle of exchange, from house to house, keeps repeating itself through the years. Sign-ups are being taken at the Front Desk; spaces are still available. See flyer for details. Reservations are being submitted for 2024, all clubs are to have submitted their requests for their special events and their repetitive activities. ere is a priority list that the Recreation Department uses for inputting the reservations starting with HOA business, Recreation, all performances with a scheduled week for rehearsals, clubs, interest groups, classes, and last to input are the private room rentals. e next grouping will be the interest groups. is includes card & board games, classes, music groups, etc. Forms will be available at the Clubhouse for interest groups to pick up beginning Oct. 15. It will take the Recreation Department a couple of months to get the data entered and confirmed for the new year. It is our hope that most reservations, made at this time, will be fixed. Confirmations will go out by email and "not available" dates will be listed. All recipients need to review their confirmations. is process will continue throughout the coming year as new reservations are made, changed, and canceled. Our newest staff member is our AV Tech, Dario Gonzalez. Dario assists the AV Committee in the broadcasting of programs on stage, on Channel 1960, and on the website. He is available for training clubs and individuals on the in-house "Presentation Server" system. Dario is learning all aspects of the Broadcast Booth from our AV Volunteers and has hit the ground running, as he is self-initiated and eager to learn. Dario grew up in Mexico, working in radio for eight years, a freelancer, and he has worked in TV, movies, and short films. Dario enjoys soball, camping, family time and speaks fluent Spanish. Please introduce yourself and welcome him aboard! is month is an event planner's dream, as there are decorations galore, costumes, snack ideas, and scary stuff. Imaginations go wild, children are excited, and the Clubhouse screams with activities. Greet your new neighbors with these funny phrases at your Halloween get-togethers this month: • My costume is eerie-sistable. • is Halloween is going to be absolutely fang-tastic! • I am bat to the bone! • Skeletons do not have the guts to dress up as anything for Halloween! Come join us for on Tues., Oct. 31, for Alfred Hitchcock's classic suspense thriller movie e Birds from 2 to 4 pm in the Clubhouse. Staff will be in costume, and terrifying snacks will be served. 18 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2023 | Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director As many of you know the shuttle goes to different pre-planned locations four times a week. ere is a plan for Tuesdays and ursdays, both in the mornings and the aernoons. ese trips cover areas where people would likely want to go shopping, banking, eating or just on a getaway. Lately I have heard from some residents that they would like to see other areas included in the rotation. So now I am asking for YOUR input. If you have ideas about destinations or anything else to do with the shuttle please email me at ellsiew@yahoo.com. I look forward to reading your comments. ~ Lynne Williams Where Would You Like Your Free Shuttle to Go?
