44 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2023 | Calorie Free Happy Hour If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. is is an all-standing, low-impact class… NO JUMPING! Christine leads each class in a warm up session followed by the aerobic session, and then she does a cool down. We use light weights for the last 10 minutes of the class. Christine sometimes adds a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. (ere is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month.) e cost is $5 cash per class paid directly to the instructor. You can pay for and try two classes without joining the club. e annual club dues are $6 (please make the check payable to OH Aerobics). Please contact Margie Raisigel (club president) if you have any questions at (760) 855-8838 or sungee@pacbell.net. ~ Margie Raisigel Aerobics e club's premier sailing event of the year took place in August – four sailboats with approximately 30 club members sailed out to the Coronado Cays. e event was preplanned for Aug. 8 based on expected tides. It was necessary to sail at high tide and to have a maximum high tide to ensure our boats wouldn't be grounded in the shoal depth waters surrounding the Cays. On the day of the sail, the crew members gathered at the overflow parking lot where an update of the day's planned activities was given. A group of drivers transported the sailors and equipment to Harbor Island Yacht Club. Conditions for the sail were perfect. Aer leaving HIYC, one boat followed another until all the boats had entered the Cays. e lead boat dropped anchor and the other boats tied up alongside the lead boat. en, the real fun began. Sailors moved from boat- to-boat sharing food and drink, reconnecting with friends on other boats. Aer a couple of hours, the boats were unlashed, and the lead boat weighed anchor. e boats departed the Cays one by one following the lead boat out. e wind was perfect for the trip back, sailing under the iconic Coronado Bridge. Some of the boats chose to dock at a waterfront restaurant near the marina for happy hour followed by dessert at a nearby gelato stand. Clearly, the sailors had an experience they won't forget, and many are looking forward to sailing to the Cays again next year. Fiy sails have been completed as of Aug. 31. With 22 scheduled in cycle four and seven more calendared in November, we will be coming up on 80 for the year. If not for the inclement weather in March and April resulting in many canceled sails, there might have been close to ninety sails in 2023. Wow! Let's also remember that the club's spectacular fall dinner and dance is on Nov. 17. Our Social Director and her volunteer staff are already hard at work preparing for the event. More information will follow in next month's newsletter and by email and notices posted in the Clubhouse. Fair winds and following seas to our members and friends. ~ Skip Maniscalco, Commodore Sailing Club
