DID YOU KNOW Did you know... that we're in for another
wet winter? Recent weather events have us living on high alert
when it comes to excessive rainfall, especially as many of us have
discovered which areas of our property are prone to water collection
or flooding. Emergency services have primarily advised us to
prepare for potential flooding by use of sandbags. Some cities
have even started offering free sandbag distribution immediately
preceding large weather events. Unfortunately, these free resources
deplete quickly and are often too heavy for many of us to lift and
move. When the flood is over, traditional sandbags become dirty
rotting sacks that hold contaminants such as sewage, pollution,
riverbank seepage, bacteria, and other environmental hazards. In
an attempt to combat these issues, many companies have started
producing safer, environmentally-friendly sandbag alternatives:
metal flood barriers, water-inflated cofferdams, aqua sacks or water-
activated flood bags. Most of these alternatives are reusable and
much easier to lift, once dried out. Please visit your local hardware
store or conduct an internet search to discover which sandbag
alternative will work best for you.
