FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2023 59 Ever since 2008, residents at Four Seasons have been getting together to enjoy one of America's favorite family activities, ping pong. In the beginning, we only had one table and we played in what is now the Arts & Crafts Room. We soon outgrew that room and we were moved into the aerobics room with two tables. When the Courts were built, we were moved into the All Purpose room with three tables and set our all-time player attendance record with over 30 people on opening day. Covid took a big hit on ping pong. All indoor activities were put on hold. Eventually, we were allowed to start playing again if we registered, wore a mask, and had six or less people in the room. It has taken time to build up our player numbers but now that is beginning to happen. One day last week we had over 15 players vying for a playing spot on our tables. We want you to come and have some fun with us as ping pong offers plenty of opportunity for exercise, recreation, and socialization. We play Mondays through Saturdays from 2 to 4 pm. Modern paddles are made of composite materials, and the balls used are pressurized to withstand cold weather. The sport also introduced new strategies and tactics, making it more competitive. Global Expansion: While paddle tennis is predominantly played in the United States, it has gained some international popularity. Countries like Argentina, Sweden, and the Netherlands have their own variations of the sport, with different court sizes and rules. Today, paddle tennis continues to be enjoyed by players of all skill levels. It combines elements of tennis and racquetball, offering a fast-paced and exciting game for enthusiasts. In August, our group said good-bye to summer, with a salad potluck party. We had a variety of delicious salads, refreshments, and desserts. The group also enjoyed playing several games of charades, the rock/ paper/scissors game, and some even tried to Hula Hoop. We always welcome new players. ~ Lizzie Gallegos, ecgallegos@outlook.com Paddle Tennis Paddle tennis Salad potluck Cake provided by Ali Rock/paper/scissors game
