14 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2023 | ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY By Colleen Morrison, Property Management Staff e Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to the HOA Board of Directors and the General Manager. Our function is to evaluate these issues and to receive the monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). Security Statistics: For August 2023, there were a total of 19,803 gate entries recorded consisting of guests, recreational vehicles, vendors, and golfers. Nordic Security performed nine property/residence checks and issued 16 citations for stop sign violations and four speeding citations. ere were 21 medical, fire, and police incidents. Nordic cited 55 residents for various parking violations, guest pass violations, and vendor violations. ere were 77 residents cited for putting trash cans out too early and/or not putting them away. ere were 49 garage doors found to be open, and Nordic made calls to each resident to advise them to close their garage doors. Nordic responded to 82 miscellaneous incidents related to deceased residents, dogs (barking, lost, off leash), signage (not allowed), solicitors, gate strikes/tailgaters, reckless drivers, suspicious activity, trespassers, welfare checks, broken/burst water lines and/or sprinkler systems. e Architectural Control Committee has finished the second round of home inspections. We received many positive compliments from homeowners about the beautiful appearance of the homes in e Colony. As I mentioned at the Board meeting in August, some aspects of home improvement projects are le to city guidelines and their inspections. ere is one thing a homeowner might do to help with the aesthetics of a project. When installing solar panels, usually a drone takes an aerial view of your roof. e solar company then makes a diagram showing the placement of the panels on your roof. As the homeowner, you can work with the solar company as to the look of this placement. Consider asking about the following: 1. e direction the panels are placed. It is a better look to have all the panels going in the same direction as opposed to some being placed vertically and some horizontally. 2. Can the panels be placed towards the back of your home where they are less visible? 3. Can the conduit be run through the attic, so it is less visible? 4. Can the hardware be placed in the garage for a cleaner look? ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky Our five subcommittees have been busy! 1. Marketing launched a revised website at the Annual Meeting aer several years of work and reviews. 2. Most of these events will be scheduled aer the Auditorium is open. 5. Outreach to History is continuing its work and will resume interviewing long-time residents this fall. Pick up an application at the HOA office or Cindy at Reception, then turn it in to the office. ey will forward it to us. COMMUNICATIONS & TECHNOLOGY By Greg Hill Home Projects for Fall As I walk around e Colony with my dog, I look at the bottom of wrought iron fencing. I have seen the estimates of such work on your home improvement applications. Yikes! I notice some white forming on the bottom of the wrought iron. Sometimes this is dried dirt, but many times it is the precursor to the formation of rust. Now is the time to touch up the bottom of your wrought iron fencing. Well, guess what? I went home and looked at my backyard wrought iron fencing. Yes, I too need some touch-up before our winter rain. I also suggest you check your sprinklers. Are they hitting your wrought iron? Anthony, the Landscape Superintendent, shared with me that the sprinklers are set at 180-degree output. is should eliminate water hitting your fence, but sometimes a bush growing nearby may push the water back to your fence. e landscape crew can adjust this if you notice it happening. Just fill out a Landscape form, which you can obtain from our receptionist Cindy or from the HOA office. She can forward it to Anthony for you. is also applies to sprinklers hitting the stucco on your house.
