14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | We would like to extend a thank you to some special members in the golf community. Thank you Joanne Dixon and Donna Schein for the great job painting the yardage/hole map plaques on the monuments at each hole on the Championship Course. Thank you Pete Peterson for initiating the golf course clean up following hurricane Hilary. Thank you to the 50+ members who showed up on short notice with rakes and garbage bags in hand that made it all possible. Most importantly, thank you to all the Golf Club Board members who volunteer to organize and run the golf events that take place throughout the year. In 2024, Sun Lakes will be one SCGA GHIN club, eliminating the separate Men's Club, Executive Men's Club, and Women's Golf Club SCGA designations. This will provide a single SCGA club handicap for all Sun Lakes golfers. Not only will this eliminate the multiple SCGA club designations, it will also allow a resident to have SCGA membership without being a member of one of the golf clubs. Interested residents or anyone with questions can contact the Pro Shop. Membership renewal will occur annually in December and be charged to your house account. Renewal will be automatic, if a member wishes to opt out of the SCGA GHIN handicap they will have to let the Pro Shop know before they are charged in December. If you are thinking of becoming a member of one of our seven golf clubs now could be a great time to join. Many of our clubs allow new members to join for 2024 and enjoy the privileges of membership for the last couple months of 2023. If you missed Activities Day in September, the Pro Shop staff or golf club membership chairs are happy to answer your questions and provide more information. Membership forms are available in the Pro Shops or on the Sun Lakes website for most golf clubs. Golf Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports During our August Procurement Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting, we discussed various projects and initiatives with FirstService Residential (FSR). One topic discussed was the Project Update section of the FSR Monthly Management Report. PAC members suggested adding specific data elements to enhance its usefulness. These additions would make the report more informative for everyone including the Master Board of Directors, Delegate Assembly, Advisory Committees, and Sun Lakes members. The suggested approach would provide clearer insights into the status of active and upcoming projects. We are enthusiastic about this step, believing it reflects FSR's positive direction toward transparency and improved insights for our community. Mark Burchfield, Golf Course Superintendent, addressed the PAC to discuss the challenges he's encountering in dealing with today's supply chain. These challenges are primarily related to obtaining equipment and replacement parts. Addressing these concerns will involve further research and potential adjustments to our current PAC process. It's important to establish qualified vendors, and introduce pre-authorization for purchases, even in cases where pricing and delivery dates aren't completely clear. Why are these changes needed? In today's supply-chain landscape, the spotlight is on effective resource management and cost effectiveness. The intricate complexities of the modern supply chain play a defining role in our decision-making processes at Sun Lakes. Ensuring the availability, reliability, and timely delivery of goods and services is inherently linked to our capacity to maintain and improve our existing and future equipment requirements. The ability to respond swiftly and make well-informed decisions is paramount to ensuring the seamless functioning of Sun Lakes. Making these adjustments is vital to maintaining the high standards of our amenities and the beauty of our community. The PAC plays a pivotal role in facilitation of an effective and transparent procurement process for the Master Board of Directors and Sun Lakes as a whole. Through their oversight of RFPs, evaluation of vendor proposals and contract compliance, the PAC ensures SLCC engages with competent vendors and secures agreements that align with SLCC goals. Stay tuned for future articles as we delve deeper into specific aspects of procurement and explore the impact of the PAC in more detail. You can join us at our monthly meeting on the third Monday of the month at 9 am in the Administration Building Conference Room.
