| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee researches, observes, and collaborates in conjunction with other volunteer committees and our Board of Directors in order to make SLCC more enjoyable for everyone while enhancing revenue. We look forward to the unique sights and smells of October — golden leaves, jack-o-lanterns, pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread. We're excited as autumn leaves explode into vibrant hues and nature starts to resemble the yellow and red of the German flag. Heed this call to celebrate one of the world's most famous fall festivals: Oktoberfest, an old-world German tradition. The first celebration in 1810 was not about a frothy foamy drink but a city-wide wedding reception for the Prince of Bavaria and his bride; the city had so much fun that they decided to do it again the following year, creating the tradition that continues to this day. You can don your lederhosen and wenchly dirndls (just kidding)… we won't be nail hammering, keg rolling, or stein dashing; we'll celebrate SLCC style. Join us Oct. 14 for an all-you-can-eat traditional German buffet: sauerbraten, German beef pot roast, with carrots and onions marinated in authentic German spices, chicken schnitzel breaded and fried, plump Bavarian bratwurst with fresh seeded buns, braised red cabbage, sauerkraut, grilled onions, light and dark mustards, hot German-style potato salad, onions, bacon, grilled petite carrots pine nuts, feta cheese, spring mix salad, red onions, mushrooms, cranberries, walnuts, raspberry vinaigrette, Bavarian-style hot soft pretzel sticks with mustard, and beer cheese sauce… all for just $24.95 pp. Make your reservations early for this very popular dinner. Oct. 20: You won't want to miss SLCC Monster Ball. Masquerade attire would be fun but of course optional. This is a one-time go- through buffet featuring Chef Chris's Ghoulish Delights… "Ghoul"- ash pasta bowl (cooking the macaroni directly in the goulash means the pasta gets to soak up all that beef and tomato, stirred by some freaky friends… don't stand too close to the cauldron!). No tricks, just treats. There will be scarecrow cheese ball with crackers (soft cheddar cheese rolled into a ball ready for cutting, dipping, and snacking), pumpkin and pesto crostini topped with burrata (pumpkin, pesto, and pecans, seasoned with salt and black pepper), tiny hot dog rattlesnake bites with a bloody dipping sauce, two black bat wings (wings marinated in an Asian-style marinade of pineapple juice, brown sugar, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce), monster meatball sliders (meatball, cheese and tomatoes with green eyeballs), pot sticker vegetarian brain parts soaked in a sweet chili sauce and fresh grape tomatoes (don't worry — not abby normal parts), and peanut butter monster munch Halloween party mix. This promises to be great Halloween fun for all. Make your reservations and bring a group for just $ 17.95 pp++. Oct. 3 is National Boyfriend Day. Bring your favorite guy to dinner or drinks in the Lounge. Oct. 6 is World Smile Day; bring a friend or a shut-in neighbor for lunch put a smile on their face and one in your heart. Oct. 28 is National Chocolate Day; celebrate with Matt's famous Chocolate Martini or any one of SLCC famous chocolate desserts. Things to remember: the last Sunday of the month is the Sun Lakes Extravaganza Brunch; Monday Night Football is in our newly remodeled Sandwedge Sports Bar & Grill. On Oct. 28, enjoy watching the Doggy Parade from 9 am to 12 pm then enjoy lunch with friends and re-cap all the furry cuteness. Looking forward to more upcoming Theme Nights? First will be the always popular Greek Night on Nov. 4. Our themed dinners have been well received and popular. Please make your reservations: (951) 769 6654. Do you have food industry or related experience you'd like to share? Our Committee Interest Form is in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Fill it out soon and return to the reception desk. All applications will be reviewed and applicants interviewed in the third week of October. We look forward to meeting you. Until next month, wishing you all happiness, fun, laughter, and peace in your hearts. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory For 20 years, Lifestyles Magazine has been the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80+ pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the MB, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the 6th of each month. The LAC meets on the 7th of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost, and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Our committee currently has no openings but always welcome applications to add to our wait list. Lifestyles Advisory
