NOTE: For book donations, please follow the guidelines on the website under "Library Committee." NOTE: Please return jigsaw puzzles to the South and North Clubhouses, not the Main Clubhouse. Recently someone donated several boxes of books at the South Clubhouse. Most likely, the person(s) who donated the books did so with good intentions. Unfortunately, these, and many like them, are unwanted by the library. These books were old/out of date, in bad condition (yellow, wet, warped, falling apart), and on subjects we do not support. This happens frequently. The books then become a burden to the committee. Yes, they can be put out at the next book sale, but in the meantime, they need to be stored somewhere out of the way. They are heavy, difficult to lift and take a lot of time and effort to sort. In many cases they are dumped. If you are considering making a book donation to the library, PLEASE first consult the donation guidelines (posted on the SLCC website under Library Committee) and PRESORT your books! If you still have questions after reading the guidelines, contact one of the committee members FIRST to ask if you have books that we can use. If we cannot use your books, we will advise you who can. We thank you for your thoughts of generosity but please use the guidelines as posted online and at each library. Library Advisory Do some early holiday shopping at the Library Committee's last book and puzzle sale of the year! BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag), fill it up and only pay $2. You won't find a better deal anywhere else! Fall Book Sale Fri., Nov. 3, 9 am to 1 pm Main Clubhouse Fireplace Room | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 17 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Marketing & Communications Advisory The opening of the renovated and newly-branded Sandwedge Bar & Grill was a huge success. Tom Keheley did an amazing job with our trivia game. A good time was had by all. We paused to remember the victims and honor the brave responders of the 9/11 tragedy. It's hard to believe it has been 22 years since this horrific attack on our country. As Americans, we have come together, bonded by a spirit of sadness and patriotism. We hope that this tragedy will never occur again. On a brighter note, we are inviting our residents to come out and join the fun each Monday for Monday Night Football. You won't want to miss out on the great menu Chef Chris has come up with. The Marketing Committee is working on a plan to help market and explain the Repair and Replacement Replenishment Fund for new home buyers. The fund is used to repair or replace assets that have either come to the end of their life or have become inoperable. This fund is NOT used for general operational expenditures or for capital improvements. To establish this would mean a change to the CC&Rs and voting is required. This committee is working on marketing ideas to get our residents to vote on this when it is placed on the ballot this fall. We know we need a 75 percent approval rate from the entire community. If approved, this could increase our annual income for the HOA by $300,000 to $400,000. ere is NO cost to existing homeowners. This assessment has been successfully implemented in other HOA communities. We will be having town halls, videos, and information in Lifestyles and in newsletters. This is a benefit to all of us. We want to make sure all of our residents are aware that this is a necessity. There will be more to come in the following weeks. The following are stats on homes in Sun Lakes: • 18 homes closed escrow as of Aug. 31, 2023 • Prices ranged from $360,000 to $450,000 • Average days on the market is 93.5 • 24 homes and 6 condos in escrow as of 8/31/23 • Prices range from $263,000 to $559,000 • 24 homes and 3 condos are active or coming soon • Prices range from $299,000 to $539,000 Our Marketing Committee is trying to come up with innovative ways to bring residents back to our Restaurant. We would like to hear from you if you have any ideas or suggestions on how to help our Restaurant & Lounge. Don't forget about the shuttle to Morongo Casino Resort and Spa. The shuttle departs Sun Lakes on Mondays at 10 am and again at noon. It then departs Morongo at 4 pm and again at 6 pm to return to Sun Lakes. Please make your reservations at the Main Clubhouse receptionist desk to ensure your seat on the bus. ~ Chairperson Michele Walter, (951) 202-8009
