So all the men of Israel assembled before King Solomon at the annual Festival of Shelters, which is held in early autumn in the month of Ethanim. (1 Kings 8:2, NLT) Join us Oct. 11 at 7 pm, in the North Clubhouse as we celebrate Sukkot – the Jewish fall festival that celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the miraculous protection God provided for the children of Israel when they left Egypt. We will serve wine with assorted crackers, cheese, fruit, and cookies. Our program will be Who Do You ink You Are? We will talk about our various heritages. Everyone please bring a memento or a picture from someone older in your family – preferably someone REALLY OLDER! We'll have fun discussing our backgrounds and then Sun Lakers Charlene Fink and Diane Stone will lead a discussion on getting organized and preserving your own story for future generations. You'll also learn about doing research that won't cost you anything and will amaze you at its ease. Cost is only $10 pp member/$13 pp guest. Payment due by Oct. 4. Join us for great music, games, dancing, themed decorations, a full meal, and of course, wonderful fellowship around the table. Members are permitted to BYOB/ beverages, coffee/water provided. Club generally meets the first Friday of each month. The next event is Fri., Oct. 6, 5:30 pm, South Clubhouse, for a fun Halloween evening with a game night facilitated by Geri Fawcett. Members will enjoy a tasty meal of bread bowl full of soup or chili. Come, enjoy the wonderful evening with themed decorations by Peggy Knox and her great committee and you dressed in your wildest Halloween costume. All this for just $20 pp. Sign-up deadline will be Oct. 4. If you want to sit with a special friend or at a specific table, please note on the envelope when you drop your check off to Barbara Jesus . Memberships for September-December 2023 are reduced to $20 pp. You can obtain a 2023 membership form on the SLCC Paisano Club website, obtain a flyer/form at the Main Clubhouse information shelves, or contact Barbara Jesus at (909) 915-4320. Make your checks out to Paisano Club and drop off at 540 Pine Valley. Guests may try the club for one time without paying the membership fee and just pay for the dinner, presently $20. Where have the first three quarters of the year gone? With the start of October, a rush of holiday events and gatherings are just around the corner with family and friends. The club's steering committee is hard at work planning for the first event scheduled for January 2024. More information will be forthcoming about the wonderful evening that is currently in the planning stages. In the meantime, if you are planning a Halloween event, you might consider serving a spooky Halloween sangria made with red wine and fresh fruit. Sangria is easy to make and should be prepared ahead of time for the best flavor. Many sangria recipes can be found on-line for a spooktacular Halloween cocktail. Not a member of the Wine Club? Dues are only $10 per person. Applications for new members are available in the racks located next to the Information Desk in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Include your email address if you have one, so we can send you information on club events.
