| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 57 As I've mentioned before, it is difficult to write an article three weeks before it will be read by our bocce players! We are about to begin what should have been our fourth week of play for the Fall Tournament. But since our first week was canceled due to renovations at the courts, namely construction of our shade awnings, we're about to play the third week of the Tournament. The Summer Tournament was played in some of the hottest weather we've had to endure, but we managed to get through it. The A League winners are Tony and Maria Manriquez, Pete Grinceri and Maggie Kline. The B League winners are Rick McHard, Phyllis Ramella and Pat and Sue Savage. Congrats to you all! We haven't reached a firm decision about the number of points we're going to play to, 16 or 14. Your opinions will be asked at our Fall Banquet, which will be on Sun., Oct. 15. The doors open at 3:30, pm, a meeting at 4 pm, and dinner at 5 pm. Let your thoughts on the subject be known at that time. Meanwhile, we will play to 14 for the Fall Tournament. Speaking of the banquet, stay close to your computer for more information on it. Our president will send out an email blast with more info soon. Questions, comments, opinions? Call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. Friends of Bocce POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court with a different paddle and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 to 10 am (spring/summer hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 3 pm and Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or to be on a decision-making committee, please feel free to contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131. **All regular POP players are asked to get their $10 membership fee to Jeanne McGuire. The dues are used to plan parties, tournaments and buy balls and paddles. Hope you'll POP by!
