| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2023 | 13
Attention! Calling all entertainers, performers, actors, technicians,
and anyone else who is interested in what happens behind the
scenes of live stage and video production. Join us in the Auditorium
for a Stage and Audio/Video Production Workshop in four parts
presented by CATCOM's Greg Bennett, a two-time Emmy-winning
photojournalist and live performance Technical Director.
1. Stagecraft: Saturday, Nov. 4, 1 pm - History of the Theatre and
the terms we still use. The areas of the venue, the stage and its parts,
stage direction, the tools of the trade, cable management, and most
important, the stage manager and the technicians who operate in the
dark that they command.
2. Performance Audio: Sunday, Nov. 12, 1 pm - Audio signal path
(what plugs into what), the audio console, types of mics and how
they hear, microphone technique, speakers and how they are used in
performance venues, and acoustics.
3. Performance Lighting: Sunday, Nov. 19, 1 pm - Why Lighting?
History of stage lighting, fixtures and lamps, power requirements,
the follow spot- history and operation, the lighting desk, DMX (the
language that lighting works on), and a demo of our new lighting
system.
4. Camera Operation: Sunday, Nov. 26, 1 pm - The parts of the
camera, proper framing, types of shots, field camera, studio camera,
camera direction (working with a director), and lighting for TV and
film.
We hope you can attend and have some fun learning and
demystifying "The Business," and maybe even want to participate in
Colony events and productions. We're looking for help!
No sign up is required. If you have questions, please call Greg Hill
at 951-526-9896.
