| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2023 | 15 ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY By Kathleen Ricketts The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to The Colony Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the General Manager. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony. The Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol ("Nordic Security"). Security Statistics: For September 2023, there were a total of 17,198 gate entries consisting of guests, recreational vehicles, vendors and golfers. Nordic Security performed seven property/residence checks and issued two citations for stop sign violations. There were 17 medical, fire, and police incidents. Nordic cited 14 residents for various parking violations, guest pass violations, and vendor violations, and 42 residents were cited for putting trash cans out too early and/or not putting them away. 40 garage doors were found to be open, and Nordic made calls to each resident to advise them to close their garage doors. Nordic responded to 49 miscellaneous incidents related to dogs (barking, lost, off leash), signage (not allowed), solicitors, disorderly conduct (irate, inebriated, verbal abuse, fighting), gate strikes/tailgaters, vehicle accident, trespassers, welfare/wellness checks, broken/burst gas/water lines/sprinkler systems. FYI! As pointed out in the report, 42 residents received citations for having their trash cans on the street outside of the designated time frame. For the previous month, there were 77 such citations. Perhaps it would be helpful to refresh everyone about the Rules & Regulations that pertain to trash can collection. Article 5.9 Rubbish and Trash. Rubbish and trash shall be put in containers and be kept out of view until collection day. Rubbish containers may be placed along the curb after 3 pm, the afternoon before collection day. Empty containers shall be removed from the driveway as soon as possible or before 10 pm, on collection day. Disregard of this rule may result in issuance of a violation. If you are away during the collections, perhaps a neighbor can assist you or you can let the office know. Also, sometimes cans need to be replaced. When this is the case, Waste Management will give you a designated time frame for the cans to be collected and replaced with the new. This could be several days. Again, notify the Office of this action to avoid a possible fine. Once again, the committee would like to give a big THANK YOU to our homeowners for maintaining their homes. We hear from many of you about the wonderful appearance of The Colony homes. Please remember home improvements, such as replacement of windows, patios, gates and fences, as well as the painting of your house, require an application. You may pick up one in the HOA office or online at our new website. Upon inspection, many homeowners are asked to paint their homes. Some homeowners do not feel this is necessary. They have mentioned that stucco should not be painted. We have also heard about a process called fogging. We will be researching the different elements of home painting and report back to you. We know that quite a few associations have requirements for home painting, e.g., stucco must be painted every 10 years and trim every five years. We have not considered this, but want to make you aware that some associations have mandatory painting requirements. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky
