NOTE: Announcing a permanent change in the club's screening schedule – starting this month, there will be only one screening per month, on the second Sunday of the month. The Cinema Club has screenings on the second Sunday of each month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our screening for this month, on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 6 pm, is the film e Ghost Army (USA 2013, 1 hr. 8 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb. com: "During World War II, a hand-picked group of American GI's undertook a bizarre mission: create a traveling road show of deception on the battlefields of Europe, with the German Army as their audience. The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops used inflatable rubber tanks, sound trucks, and dazzling performance art to bluff the enemy again and again, often right along the front lines. Many of the men picked to carry out these dangerous deception missions were artists. Some went on to become famous, including fashion designer Bill Blass. In their spare time, they painted and sketched their way across Europe, creating a unique and moving visual record of their war. Their secret mission was kept hushed up for nearly 50 years after the war's end." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. The Classic Film Group is hosting its very first "Nightmare After Halloween" musical on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater. It's the 30th anniversary of Disney/ Tim Burton's classic e Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween Town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween — but alas, they can't get it quite right. The most beautiful cartoon love story ever made, a masterpiece in every sense. The film has a wonderful storyline and character. It's childlike for the kids and outlandish for the adults. Jack is a charming character. Who would ever think that a musical about the overlap between Halloween and Christmas would work? However, it does work with the songs not exactly being Christmas - or Halloween - classics, but fitting the dark mood of this film perfectly. Don't miss the Wednesday Matinee/ Western Group on Nov. 8 at 2 pm in the theater for the last of the Magnificent Seven trilogy, Guns of the Magnificent Seven starring George Kennedy and James Whitmore. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@gmail.com The holiday season is upon us. It begins with Thanksgiving, and it ends with New Year's Day. It's a time to reflect about the past year and make plans for the upcoming year. It's time to bring family and friends together to give thanks for our good fortune. With that being said, our good fortune this month is Monserate Vineyards and Winery. We are thankful that they will be educating us on their winery and fine wines. Monserate is located in Fallbrook, Calif. Their vineyards sit on the old Fallbrook Golf Course which closed in 2016 and was purchased for the winery. In 2017, more than 70 acres of vineyards were planted and in 2020 the first vintage was bottled. Monserate concentrates on Italian varietals. ~ Gino Domico, gdomico@gmail.com Taste d'Vine
