R'Oktoberfest (ROCK-tober fest) was a great success. The band was Breez'n, one of our favorites. They put the Oktoberfest-twist on their Rock dance music. The caterer for our German food was Bekkers supplied the bratwurst and all the trimmings. The inspiration for this party and hosts were Everett and Jeannie Murrell, Alan and Jean Richmond, Brian and Joy Tisher, Donna DiBella and Allison Temples. They were helped by Sue Sigaty and the Campbells. They were a great team. Many thanks are in order for the work of the Club's Board of Directors this year. Here they are doing what Boards do when Board work turns into long friendships. "There's nothing better than to work as a team doing something that benefits our community," said Lynn Murphy, former Board member. "Serving on a Board is a great way to REALLY get to know people who have the same interests as you and make new friends." Retiring from long (up to 13 years long!) service on the Doo Wop Board are Marv Harwood, (President), Jim Kaminsky (Treasurer), and Linda Ball (Membership). Diane Rorabaugh (Secretary) continues to work hard while finishing up her term. Many thanks to all of them plus Sue Silva (Director of Club Events) who has agreed to serve again. Sue and six other amazing members were nominated to be on the 2024 Board. Any of them would have been great on the Board, but the Board is limited to five members. The election was held last month, and the results are Tom Harwood, Janet Mrvos, Karla Sando, Andrea Anderson, and Sue Silva. Pictured above left are Diane, Marv, Linda, and a fill-in for Jim at the membership meeting after electing very capable members to replace them. They are grateful and excited about all the wonderful people who stepped up so they could retire. There are wonderful holidays to celebrate ahead and, your Travel Club Board is pleased to share our last trip for 2023 AND our Kick-Off Event for 2024! Dec. 10 – San Diego Boat Parade of Lights: We will be traveling down to San Diego to see the Annual San Diego Boat Parade of Lights from the decks of the Berkeley, which is a ship permanently docked in the Bay. Dinner is included. After dinner, we will enjoy the Parade of Boats decorated for the Holidays as they pass by both sides of our boat. Trip cost is $135. Complete details are on the flyers available at the Clubhouse. Jan. 8, 2024 - KICK-OFF: Our 2024 Travel Club Kick-Off will be held on Mon., Jan. 8, in Abravanel Hall. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the buffet begins at 6 pm. Our program starts at 7 pm, and our Club President, Callie Dean, will share pictures and highlights of our Club Trip to New Mexico. Our buffet dinner includes: salad; garlic knots; baked lasagna with meat sauce; pizza (including cheese); ice cream bar; soft drink and coffee. This event is only open to 2023 Travel Club members or to new members who pay the $10 per person Travel Club dues for 2024. The cost of the event is $5 per person. Please put your check(s), made out to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club envelope at the Clubhouse. Your check must be placed in the envelope on or before Sat., Dec. 23, along with a check for the 2024 dues if you were not a Club member in 2023. Your check registers you for this event.
