| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2023 | 37 The OHCC RV Club is comprised of members who own RVs and also members who do not own an RV, called WOWs (without wheels). On most trips, the Wagon Masters book a block of campsites for the RVer's, and the WOW Coordinator arranges rooms for the WOW's nearby. Many campgrounds (particularly KOA's) have rentable cabins located right on the campground premises. Otherwise, the WOWs stay at a nearby motel, hotel or Inn and participate at the campground with all the Club activities. Another way WOWs can be part of the camping experience is by renting an RV near the destination campground and having it delivered and set-up at the campground for their arrival. This works quite well when the RV Club trip is centered around a single destination. Recently, two members did this on the very successful Club trip to Lake Tahoe. This makes the WOW an actual RVer and puts them in the midst of the campground activities. So, a google search using the campground zip code will show what is for rent in that area. While the popular tourists' destinations have sufficient activity to support actual RV rental companies, many destinations do not. Not surprisingly, however, a scheme modeled after Airbnb or VRBO, has been created for RV rentals. A popular one is called RVshare. This gives private RV owners and prospective renters a platform to negotiate their own deal. For a campground setting, renting a trailer is a good option. So, prior to your arrival, the owner will deliver it to your site, level it, hook up water, sewer and electricity and give you some instructions in writing or preferably in person. After the RV rally is over, the renter leaves it in a neat and reasonably clean condition and the owner will come and take it away, dump the tanks, add water, propane etc. and do a thorough cleaning/sanitizing. The nightly cost for a trailer for two runs $100-200. There will be a charge for delivery and pick up, refundable cleaning/breakage deposit. Some don't allow pets while others do but add a surcharge. It's an interesting way to think about camping! The annual Thanksgiving trip is taking place Nov. 6-10 in Hemet, and the Club Holiday Party is on Dec. 5. Next Membership meeting is Nov. 28 in the Hall. Social time 6:30 pm and business meeting at 7 pm. Written by Paul Lange RV Club Garden Club The holidays are upon us and often that means entertaining with wine. The Garden Club has a timely speaker to help you understand the wine a little more. Our November speaker is Dane Kuta, who will talk about "The Art of Vine Growing" (Viticulture). Viticulture deals with the science of cultivation, growing, and harvesting of grapes; while Viniculture deals with the same science but specifically for wine production. Dane is a Level 2 Certified Sommelier and member of the Guild of Sommeliers. He teaches Wine Appreciation at local universities and is also the official sommelier of the San Diego Botanical Garden. Dane has explored the wine regions of many countries including Australia, France, Germany, Italy and New Zealand and has extensive knowledge about the practice of vine growing. His lecture will touch on geography, climate, soil, grape varietals of California vs. the World, Viticulture practices and grape harvesting. This talk is sure to be fascinating and may lend some insight into what it takes to produce your favorite bottle of wine! The meeting will be in Abravanel Hall. Not yet a member of the Garden Club, dues are still $10 and if you join at the October or November meetings it will include 2024 dues. You will also enjoy member pricing for our annual holiday luncheon, Wed., Dec. 13. It's always a sell-out, you don't want to miss, more details about the luncheon will be available next month.
