Reservations for 2024 are coming in and the Recreation Department is busily posting the requests. The interest groups are to have submitted their requests. We will hold a lottery on Wed., Nov. 15 at 10 am, for all the paperwork received. We are asking all classes, music, card, and support groups to submit their plans for 2024 before this date. Please do not assume that your past reservations are automatically scheduled. Things change, groups change, and people change. We look forward to assisting anyone that needs direction regarding this process. The Social Clubs will have an orientation for all new officers on Tues., Nov. 28 at 12:30 to 2 pm. This has been a great benefit to those heading up a club for the very first time and learning the process. Flu Shots will not be administered this year, as in the past. Walgreen's is now requiring a service fee to set up a clinic for a determined number of applicants. We are encouraging all residents to make appointments at their local pharmacy or with their physicians. Netflix has canceled their DVD program. For years we have received DVDs by mail and the company has now transitioned to streaming only. 'Just wondering what are they doing with all the DVDs? We will rely on the service to continue showing movies in the Clubhouse, but relying on the Internet is not always reliable. It seems we should keep some discs around here- just in case. The Veterans Day program is on the schedule for Sat., Nov. 11 at 11 am. That is easy to remember, so don't forget honoring our veterans. Donna Russell will be the MC again this year with the help of the Veterans Club. Donna has been organizing this, with the assistance of so many others, for over 13 years and this program is so heartwarming. The Rancho Buena Vista High School Band will perform and with it being on a Saturday, this would be a good time to invite grandchildren and friends. Refreshments will be served immediately following on the Palm Court. November is "Bring in the Holidays Month." The Annual Toy drive sponsored by the Woodchucks is just around the corner. So, get shopping and bring an unwrapped toy or gift card to the Overflow Parking Lot on Sat., Nov. 18 from 9 am to 1 pm. This community is so supportive in this endeavor, it is a remarkable sight to see the generosity of so many residents. A flyer regarding the details is found within. The Clubhouse will be closed at 5 pm on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. Please make a note of this. The staff will be able to go home to enjoy their holiday. We have a lot to be thankful for, look at all the blessings we have around us, and invite a neighbor to gobble down that turkey together. 'Even inviting them to a restaurant would be another way to avoid the mounds of dishes and worrying about what to do with the left-over cranberry sauce. Happy Thanksgiving to all from the Clubhouse! 18 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2023 | Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director I wanted to thank all of you who responded to my call for suggestions. I received many good ideas. They will all be looked at by the people who will write the contract with the shuttle company for next year. I know it will be a while, but change does not happen quickly in Ocean Hills. Meanwhile, I am always open to hear your comments about our wonderful amenity, ellsiew@yahoo.com. And don't forget to send your ideas for one of our four special trips. Jack and I had another fun trip to Los Posas, only this time we and our friends explored Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. It is actually a lot more than a pizza restaurant. We each had a different salad and hummus with pita. All were very filling and very tasty. It is on my list for a return visit. Of course, our wonderful shuttle driver, Bob, always has a nice welcome for everyone. And remember assistive devices are not a problem on the shuttle. So, to those of you who have been thinking about trying a ride we all say, "come join us". Thank You For Your Responses
