44 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2023 | Calorie Free Happy Hour! If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. This is an all standing low impact class… NO JUMPING! The instructor leads each class in a warm up session followed by the aerobic portion, and then she does a cool down. Light weights are used for the last 10 minutes of the class. Occasionally there are a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. (There is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month.) The cost is $5 per class paid directly to the instructor. You may pay for and try two classes without joining the club. The annual club dues are $6 (please make the check payable to OH Aerobics). ~ Written by Margie Raisigel Aerobics As we enter the fall months, we start to think of Autumn colors, Thanksgiving, and the year-end holidays. But we must not forget that our Ocean Hills Sailing Club members have much yet to look forward to. First, our annual officer/director elections are in process. It starts with nominations for the five officer/director positions and culminates with elections to be announced during the General Meeting session preceding the Fall Gala. By now our members have received and submitted their nominations and can expect to receive their election ballots, shortly. All election forms are to be turned in at the Clubhouse front desk prior to Nov. 17 or they may be submitted on the 17th at Abravanel Hall if you are attending the Fall Gala. The ballots will be tallied, and the results of the election will be announced during the General Meeting session at the start of the gala. Secondly, the club has completed 64 sails year to date as of Sept. 30. With another 13 scheduled through the end of October and seven or more planned for November, total sails for the year may well exceed 85 (a record number), despite the numerous cancellations earlier in the year. The spectacular number of sails reflects both our club's rising membership and the dedication of our Captains and Mates who volunteer so much of their time to bring these sails to fruition. As of Sept. 30, our club boasted of having 264 members. By Oct. 4 membership had grown to 267. This is record membership for the club. Fall sailing can be thrilling. Yes, it can get chilly as the breeze picks up, but more frequent offshore winds can create wonderful opportunities for speedy runs to the ocean off Point Loma. A recent group of four went out on a smaller Catalina 27 and sailed three or four miles out past the SD buoy on a course for the Coronado Islands. It was a magnificent day with 12 to 15 knot winds, two-to-three-foot swells, whitecaps and the boats leeward gunnel scraping the wave tops. All four of the sailors said it was their best day of sailing this year. So please, if you can, don't hesitate to sign up for the coming sails in 2023. Last, we cannot forget to attend the Fall Gala dinner/dance. Our social director and her all-volunteer staff have planned a wonderful evening of dining, music and dancing. As of Oct. 4, we had 89 members already signed up and capacity is limited. If you haven't, yet, you are encouraged to sign up as quickly as you can. May all our members, OHCC residents and friends enjoy fair winds and following seas. ~ Written by Skip Maniscalco Sailing Club
