For book donations, please follow the guidelines on the website under "Library Committee." Please return jigsaw puzzles to the South and North Clubhouse Libraries, not the Main Clubhouse Library. In October, we held an appreciation luncheon for our volunteers, thanking them for their dedication and time in keeping our libraries in good order. Special thanks to the committee who put this together. Fri., Nov. 3, from 9 am to 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Fireplace Room will be our last book and puzzle sale of the year. Proceeds always go to purchase more books so come out and support your libraries. We only charge $2/bag stuffed with as much as you can carry! We need your help to make the libraries look better by returning books you've borrowed that are still at home on your shelves. Our budget is very limited, and we do the best we can to keep the shelves stocked. The books we purchase are not for your personal library. Last year we purchased new military titles for the North Clubhouse and they've never been returned. They were expensive. Do you have them? We don't have due dates and overdue fines. We operate on the honor system but when you keep books that don't belong to you, you deprive other Sun Lakers the opportunity to read them. No questions asked, just bring them back. Sun Lakes has four libraries: two at the Main Clubhouse, one each at South and North Clubhouses. If you haven't discovered any of our libraries, we encourage you to stop in and browse. Here are some great reasons to be a reader: 1. Reading can make you a great conversationalist. 2. Neighbors will never complain that you are reading too loudly. 3. Knowledge by osmosis has not yet been perfected, so you'd better read. 4. Books have stopped bullets. Reading could save your life. 5. Dinosaurs did not read and look what happened to them. Library Advisory Do some early holiday shopping at the Library Committee's last book and puzzle sale of the year! BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag), fill it up and only pay $2. You won't find a better deal anywhere else! Fall Book Sale Fri., Nov. 3, 9 am to 1 pm Main Clubhouse Fireplace Room | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2023 | 17 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Marketing & Communications Advisory We hope by now you have visited the newly-renovated Sandwedge Bar & Grill. Monday Night football is going strong and Tom Keheley is doing a great job with our trivia game. The Marketing Advisory Committee is helping to promote the Repair and Replacement Replenishment Fund for new home buyers. The fund is used to repair or replace assets that have either come to the end of their life or have become inoperable. This fund is NOT used for general-operation expenditures or for capital improvements. With the Replenishment Fund: • Potential additional funding of $400,000 that goes the Repair & Replacement Fund • Helps offset future large assessment contributions by current homeowners • Brings in new funds to keep the funding level higher Without the Replenishment Fund: • All repair and replacement funding will come from assessments • Will require additional homeowner assessments to increase the fund to a 70 percent funding level • Projects may be deferred To establish this would mean a change to the CC&Rs and voting is required. We NEED a 75 percent approval rate from the entire community. And we want to make this perfectly clear — there is NO cost to existing homeowners. This assessment has been successfully implemented in other HOA communities. This is a benefit to all of us. We want to make sure all of our residents are aware that this is a necessity. The ballots will be mailed out in November and the election will occur on Dec. 7. Please make sure you VOTE "YES" on this extremely important ballot measure. The following are stats on homes in Sun Lakes. • 16 homes and five condos closed escrow as of Sept. 30 • Average price of homes $396,744; -average price of condos $306,580 • 19 homes and one condo in escrow as of Sept. 30 • 20 homes and four condos are active or coming soon Don't forget about the shuttle to Morongo Casino Resort and Spa. The shuttle departs Sun Lakes Mondays at noon; it then departs Morongo at 4 pm. Please make your reservations at the receptionist desk to ensure your seat on the bus. ~ Chairperson Michele Walter, (951) 202-8009
