Please join the Yiddish Culture Club on Nov. 8 at 7 pm in the South Clubhouse as we sing along! The Yiddish Culture Club presents "Tevye the Dairy Man meets Fiddler on the Roof " accompanied by a Fiddler sing- along led by Gerry Phelps. We will examine a comparison between the original work, "Tevye the Dairyman" and the musical Fiddler On e Roof with a sing-along. The fiddler's presence on the roof represents tradition that may not have an obvious reason but works to maintain a balance. Music is one of the ways that Jewish culture is set apart in Fiddler On e Roof. "Without tradition, our lives would be as shaky as a fiddler on the roof," says Tevye in the opening number of Fiddler On e Roof. Practice your "Daidle deedle daidles" before our meeting: If I were a rich man, Daidle deedle daidle Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum If I were a wealthy man I wouldn't have to work hard, Daidle deedle daidle Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb If I were a biddy-biddy rich, Daidle deedle daidle daidle man Coffee and cake will be served; cost is free for members and $3 for guests. Paisano Wine Club The month of November and Thanksgiving are a time to be grateful for all of the blessings we have and to share special time with family and friends. A favorite wine on your Thanksgiving table or a bottle of wine to give as a hostess gift will be the perfect complement to any gathering. January is right around the corner and the steering committee is working on the first event scheduled for Jan. 20, 2024. Save the date as more information will be forthcoming about the wonderful evening that is currently in the planning stages. When selecting a wine for your Thanksgiving dinner, consider wines that complement a wide variety of foods. A French Gamay is considered to be a go-to wine for pairing with your Thanksgiving meal as well as a delicate Pinot Noir from Oregon. A Sauvignon Blanc or a Riesling are also excellent choices that will pair very well with your Thanksgiving repast. Not a member of the Wine Club? Dues are only $10 per person. Applications for brand new members are available in the racks located next to the Information Desk in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. It is important to include your email address if you have one, so we can send you information on club events.
