| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2023 | 45 Caregiver Support Group HAPPY THANKSGIVING! What a wonderful month! This is a month to think of all the things and people in our life that we are thankful for. I am thankful for each of you that I have met in this amazing group. I am so thankful for the volunteers who help me each month in the Arts & Crafts Room during the meeting. Thank you Susan Brown and Shelly Braatz. I am thankful for the many entertainment groups who have entertained our loved ones this past year. I am especially thankful to Diane Stone who conducts the meeting each month and is always there for all who need help. I am especially thankful for my husband Frank Magnolia who encourages me each day to follow my dream. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., Nov. 16 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. There is no guest speaker this month. This will give each of you more time to share. This program is open to ALL CAREGIVERS and is free. We also have a program in the Arts & Crafts Room where we care for your loved one. So don't leave him or her at home. We offer live entertainment, games, exercise, and just plain fun. No one is forced to participate. Fusion and Pizzazz entertain this month. We have GREAT entertainment for your loved one. Please note we have a change in phone numbers. If you have programed these numbers in your phone, please note the change. If you have any questions, would like to learn more about Memory Loss, or would like reading material that we can loan you, call Diane at (951) 765 7460, Doug at (360) 840-5559 or me, Anne, at (951) 845- 8700. ACTIVITIES AND DEMENTIA: A person living with dementia will eventually need assistance in planning daily activities and maintaining an active lifestyle, which can enhance self-esteem; structure time; provide a sense of engagement, usefulness, accomplishment, and dignity; create feelings of security and togetherness; and reduce behavior such as wandering. 10 TIPS FOR ACTIVITIES AT HOME 1. Be flexible and patient; 2. Encourage involvement in daily life; 3. Avoid correcting the person; 4. Help the person remain as independent as possible; 5. Offer opportunities to make choices; 6. Simplify instructions; 7. Establish a familiar routine; 8. Respond to the person's feelings; 9. Simplify, structure, and supervise; 10. Provide encouragement and support. Stroke Recovery Support Group This group is designed to reach out to recovering stroke victims. We meet to share our stories of varying degrees of success, a sense of being understood, and of optimism for the future. Join us on Sundays from 12 to 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Call Barbara Searcy for more information at (951) 663-3382.
