| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2023 | 67 The Tennis Club will host our annual Turkey Shoot on Sat., Nov. 18. In this fun event, participants purchase opportunities to stroke serves that hit targets to win pumpkin pies and turkeys. Last year our Club President, David Huetten, donned our turkey costume. He is pictured with Joyce Close. Sally Jo Schwartz has volunteered once again to play the turkey this year. All Sun Lakers are welcome to join in the good time that begins at 9 am. Bring dollars to take your turn in the fun. Our Drop-in sessions continue to be open to all Sun Lakes residents. On Sat., Nov. 4, we meet for learning skills at 8 am, then at 8:30 am, play mixed doubles for about ninety minutes. Each Tuesday and Thursday all Sun Lakers are welcome to drop-in for mixed doubles at 8 am. There is a nominal fee to cover the cost of tennis balls. Further, on Mon., Nov. 13, at 5 pm, there is an opportunity to obtain instruction in intermediate and advanced skills. Members and guests need to sign-up in advance and pre-pay ($2 for members/$5 for non- members). Limited to twelve participants. The Sun Lakes Tennis Club's annual Mixed Doubles Tournament was held Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. Our annual Club tournaments continued in the month of October with Women's and Men's tournaments, respectively, taking place. All tournament results will be reported in our December Lifestyles article. Finally, a Tennis Quiz by our tennis pro, Phil Hazelton. He asks, "Who can get this right? You are playing doubles. Your partner returns a ball and hits an opposing player on the head. The ball comes back on your side volley height. You react and finish the point by hitting the volley for a winner." Phil continues, "Question, was the ball that hit the opposing player a legal shot when it came back on your side?" The answer: "No! Rules state that if the ball hits your body you have lost the point. If, however, it hits your racquet hand, because it is considered part, or extension of the racquet, then it is legal." As always, remember, keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game. Tennis
