| LIFE IN SOLERA | NOVEMBER 2023 | 47 GOLF CLUB SAVE THE DATE – Dec. 16. We will be combining our Annual Golf Membership Party with our Christmas Party. This year we will have an option of bringing toys or a check for $20 (per couple) made out to Carol's Kitchen. Our President Jim Karalun wanted to recognize one of our golfers and had this to say, "As golfers we dream of shooting our age in golf. Last Thursday (Sept. 14) at Seven Hills in Hemet Ernie Salvador did one better. Ernie is 85 and on that Thursday he shot a 78. He chipped in for a birdie on one hole and had two other birdies to shoot his best game ever. Congratulations to a great game Ernie. Hopefully you framed that scorecard!" On another note, Cathy Blair graciously gave the Golf Club one of Vance Blair's putters that he designed, made and then used in competition. This was a tribute to a master woodworker and one of the founders of the Solera Golf Club. It is now on display in the clubhouse display case. I hope to improve the view of the write-up on Vance and the way his putter is displayed. I hope that when you are in the club that you get to view his work. Our first game in October was a 2-Man Best Ball Game. The winners were Manuel Magdaleno and Richard Crowe with an 11 under par. Closest to the pin honors went to Bob Marks, Jerry Stearn, Jesse Marin and Armand Silva. The final week in September gave us A & B flights of an individual game of Low Gross and Low Net. Bob Umeck and Magdaleno were winners of their respective A & B Flights for Low Gross. The low net side had Marks and Jim Karalun atop the standing for their A & B Flights. Tony Smith carded 29 putts to win the fewest putts contest. On Sept. 19, the foursome of Ernie Salvador, Karalun, Silva and Magdaleno took honors in the 2-Best Ball game. Sept. 12 saw Ed Young, Salvador, Karalun, and John Dockery take 1st place in the Four Man Shamble event. September started out with an Individual Low Gross and Low Net games. Dave Scott and Stearn won their Low Gross respective flights while Low Net Flight A was won by Silva with Salvador took honors in Flight B. Looking for a fun Sunday evening?
