SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | NOVEMBER 2023 7 By Cindy Ponce de Leon, Resident We've been on numerous golf vacations over the past 20 years all over California, Arizona, and Nevada. is year we decided to golf in Kauai with two other couples. In January we found the most amazing villa with a pool for rent in Princeville. We couldn't have been happier with the price or the Villa. It was on Hole 2 of the Makai Golf Course. Kauai is known for all the chickens that roam the island. So, when the local rooster woke us up the first morning and we saw the most spectacular view of the golf course and beyond to the ocean we were just in awe. We only had seven days, so the guys were limited to three days of golf. We had two nights of group dinners and every day each couple had excursions planned and special things we wanted to see. We enjoyed a few mornings having breakfast at the One Hotel on Hanalei Bay. e hotel rooops are covered with sod, trailing vines and vegetable and herb gardens. When you're going to the north end of the bay and look at the hotel from the road all you see are black boxes with plants. It's designed to fade into the island, and it does! e sushi at e Dolphin Hanalei was absolutely amazing. We had watched videos on things to do for months so it was really fun to seek places we had seen to either eat at or go to. Waimea Canyon is on the southernmost part of the island, also referred to as the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. Kauai Coffee is the largest coffee farm in the US with over four million coffee plants. Also on the southside are zip lining, waterfalls and kayaking. We did the sunset dinner cruise up the NaPali coast. We attended an amazing luau with a train ride through an old sugar cane plantation. One thing you cannot miss is the Sunset Golf Cart Tour at the Makai Golf Course in Princeville. is trip we rented a car through the Turo app. Turo has a shuttle at every airport. Your Turo host gives details of where to get the shuttle, gives you a picture of the car you rented in the stall number and lock box code for the key. All you need to do is get in the car and drive. Turo is faster, more convenient and less expensive than airport rental companies. Aloha, we hope you enjoy our pictures! Visiting the Garden Island
