| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2023 | 51 "When you go to a garden do you look at the weeds? Spend more time with the roses and jasmines." ~ Rumi At our November meeting, the Garden Club invited all of the Sun Lakes community to attend a special presentation. The Riverside National Cemetery and Memorial Park was represented by retired military spokesmen, Jonathan Ramirez and his associate. They discussed the history of the cemetery, its many functions, and more pointedly, vital information on the criteria for interment of military veterans and (to some extent) their families. Photos helped to show that one couldn't ask for a more beautiful resting place to honor those who have served in the military. We are excitedly looking forward to the Garden Club's last meeting of the year, a Winter Wonderland Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 13 from 10 am to 12 noon. Our wonderland adventure includes a savory buffet by Chef Chris, a joyful 30-minute comedy e Elf on the Shelf Must Die presented by the Banning High School Drama Club, door prizes, and to top it all off, Sun Lakes' Bob-the-Baker will bake us a yummy dessert. If you'd like to join us for all this "Wonderland- fulness," Janis Rice at (909) 851-2144 said she is willing to sell tickets through Mon., Dec. 4 or until they are sold out, whichever comes first. All are welcome. You do not have to be a member of the Garden Club to come and enjoy. Tickets for members are $20 and for guests $32. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced). For more information contact President Beverly Agner at (951)306- 7379. Dues to join the Garden Club are only $15 a year; enrollment begins in January. For membership questions, you can call Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584 or Linda Powers at (951) 769-3101. To have your fruit trees picked for the Banning H.E.L.P. Center or Carol's Kitchen call Joy Bailey at (909) 856-4111. Pat Pennington will happily answer vegetable garden questions at (951 ) 314-9229. The Garden Club wishes all of the Sun Lakes community a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year. Garden Club
