| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2023 | 67 The Tennis Club has one major event remaining in 2023, our annual holiday party that is scheduled for Sun., Dec. 17, in the South Clubhouse. The dinner meal will be preceded by a brief quarterly meeting with the main agenda item being the election of Executive Board members for 2024. Entertainment will follow. Also, please note: Sat., Dec. 2- 8 am -Skills Session/8:30 am-Mixer Mon., Dec. 11 -5 pm- Intermediate/Advanced Skills & Mixer Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays - 8 am – Drop-In Mixers (open to all) At the close of the year, reflection on the year's events and activities seems appropriate. My own personal reflection is to note that our President, Bill Hendra, and the other members of our Executive Board (Peggy Laurel-Theil, Kim Jensen, Lillie Sims and Mark Vanderpool) have served the club exceptionally well. Communication has been clear and timely. Our annual calendar of meetings, events, and tournaments has been effectively carried out. New to the year have been the Intermediate and Advanced Clinics/Mixers offered once each month. Thank you to each member of our Executive Board for their work on behalf of the club. That is the good news for 2023. The sad news is the loss of current and former Club members including Dan Comerford, Modi Gonzalez, Sandy Richman, and Sherry Hendra. Our Oct. 19 Oktoberfest Party (pictured) paused to offer a prayer and a moment of silence in caring remembrance. We were pleased to include a significant number of Sherry Hendra's family members. Sherry's work on behalf of the club was noted with appreciation. Bill Hendra made the suggestion that our future Octoberfest parties would do well to continue this practice of remembering club members lost during the previous year. Finally, an end of the year report on our three tournaments, each one organized by our tennis pro, Phil Hazelton. Here is the list of tournament results: Mixed Doubles Champs–Tom Whittington and Anita Chatigny / Runners-Up – Don Zelmer and Kim Jensen (Consolation-Bob and Brandi Elliot won over Al Acosta and Cheryl Vanderpool); Men's Doubles Champs -Tom Whittington and Ken Brown / Runners-Up - Alan Lott and Don Zelmer; Women's Doubles Champs – Anita Chatigny and Sally Jo Schwartz / Runners-Up - Cheryl Vanderpool and Kim Jensen. Thank you to each of these participants, and to Phil Hazelton, for his efforts to get things organized. All of these talented players are featured on the Sun Lakes Tennis Club's Facebook page.
