10 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2023 | When you drove through the Sun Lakes Country Club entrance for the first time, you became a very special person. You became a generous and caring person with a regard for your neighbors and the greater San Gorgonio Pass Area. Years ago, the District Delegate Assembly adopted two programs that affected the people of Banning. The first program was the Fill the Cupboard program for the benefit of the Banning Senior Center. The city operates this center to assist needy seniors in our community. Each district has a month designated for them to donate food stuffs for the seniors. Because of the difficulty of selecting the foods that the city can accept, many districts donate funds whereby the city then purchases the food. The second program is the Holiday Wish Program. Through an application process, the City of Banning selects some 50 families for assistance at Christmas time. Usually each district picks two or more families to sponsor. The application form lists the family members, their ages, sizes, and requests. The district then goes shopping for clothes and toys for the children and a gift or two for the household. Where does all this money come from to help our neighbors in the city of Banning? FROM YOU! You are the good neighbors, the Sun Lakers helping your neighbors in the city of Banning. Your District Delegate monitors the program and with their staff, they do all of the work to a successful conclusion. Your district is now collecting for the Wish Program to make a wonderful Christmas for some family. Please donate what you can to put smiles on the faces of the little children. Besides these programs, each day hundreds of Sun Lakers go out into the Pass Area communities to donate their time and money to assist others. They go to the schools, libraries, charities, centers and other locations to help where they can for the benefit of others. The Charitable Trust Board has events throughout the year. Your donations to these events contribute to residents in the Pass Area. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa from the District Delegates and Alternate Delegates. ~ Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly It looks like the end of my era is over, I have tendered my resignation as Chairman of the District Delegate Assembly. Some of the best years of my life as a Delegate have been as Chairman. I would like to thank all of the people who have passed through my life as part of the District Delegate Assembly. I have met so many outstanding people during my years as part of the Assembly. They are not only Delegates or Alternate Delegates, but the members of our HOA who asked questions or needed guidance. The community of Sun Lakes is "one big happy family." My life as a Delegate has been fulfilling. If anyone needs help at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me. ~ Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly; (951) 769-1775, (951) 760-1691 (cell), theforminos@verizon.net DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT 'Tis the season for giving THE END OF AN ERA Thank you to Joe for the years spent making Sun Lakes a better place. It is greatly appreciated. Greetings Sun Lakes residents, As my first year as your county supervisor comes to an end, I look back with pride at what my staff and I have accomplished. I want to point out some very important initiatives my office has introduced, especially related to our valued seniors! The first is our "Hire a Senior" program that gives local businesses financial incentives to hire a local senior. This program is only available in Districts 5. If you are a senior, looking for full or part time employment, or an employer wanting to participate in the program, please contact my office. I have held meet and greets at all five senior centers in District 5 and many of the 55+ HOAs, including the beautiful community of Sun Lakes. Not only was I able to meet many of my constituents but I brought representatives from the Department of Public Social Services, Office on Aging and the District Attorney's office. It has been a very good first year! I wish you all a happy and joyous holiday season. Yxstian Gutierrez County Supervisor
