Sherry Hendra: August 26, 1949 – September 30, 2023 Sherry (Charboneau) Hendra, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from Farmington High School, class of 1967. She met William Hendra at Peek-A-Boo Lounge, a teenage night club, when William, from Lansing, was in the Air Force stationed at Chanute Air Force Base. The attraction was immediate. They were wed on Valentine's Day, 1970. The rest is a love story that placed Sherry in military bases in the USA and around the world. The list of military bases is long. Sherry faced the challenges of marriage, family, cultural differences, and times of hardship with courage, imagination, and sheer joy. She served in secretarial roles, and in protocol, placing her in direct touch with higher echelons of military leadership. Her death marks a loss to many friends here in Sun Lakes, around our nation, and the world. William and Sherry arrived in Sun Lakes in 2003. Sherry embraced an active lifestyle, including golf. She also took part in starting the Young at Heart Club, Red Hats, and Water Volleyball. Sherry was a longtime member of the Tennis Club where, with Bill, she helped cater meals for the club. At the Tennis Club meeting for Oktoberfest, members celebrated her life and offered condolences to her husband, William, Tennis Club President, 2023. Sherry was a natural comedian and storyteller. She loved to party, and as was true for William, she loved to travel, often hopping on military transports with him at a moment's notice. She had many stories to tell about their years in military service and their many adventures. Her mantra for living was, "Be kind." Sherry Hendra is survived by her husband, William, two sons, William and Brian, siblings Joe, Barney, and Mary Beth, and one grandchild, McKenzie. William Wordsworth penned the verse, "She was a phantom of delight when first she gleamed upon my sight; a lovely apparition, sent to be a moment's ornament … a dancing shape, an image gay, to haunt, to startle, and waylay." William Hendra simply says, "Sherry was the love of my life." Farewell Sherry. Rest in peace. Drew Hampton Lowery was born May 13, 1953 in Battle Creek, Michigan, second of three children born to Ray and Nancy (Gaetano) Lowery. He passed away peacefully on August 10 after a battle with the complications from West Nile Virus. He leaves behind his loving wife Luba Lowery, his mother Nancy Lowery, brother Mark Lowery, sister Lisa Gray and their families. Drew was a passionate musician who received his bachelor's degree in Horn Performance in 1976 from Cal State Long Beach and continued his music studies until 1978 at Cal Arts. His love for the French horn mirrored his father who also played horn in the Los Angeles area--the two of them played duets regularly up until his father passed away just a few years ago. After graduating from college, Drew played horn in the Graunke Symphony in Munich, Germany, as well as a freelance performer in New York, playing Broadway shows, local symphonies, and performed at Carnegie Hall. After returning to Southern California, he taught high school band and orchestra, was a current business owner of Villa Blinds and Shutters and performed regularly with local bands, orchestras, and brass quintets. In January of 2023, he produced a landmark concert with the Riverside Horns, a massive gathering of more than 24 horn players from Southern California. His passion for music never faded. Drew created a lasting legacy with the horn community and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and musicians worldwide.
