Our October event is my favorite: Witches! We trade
our traditional red hats and purple clothing for witches'
attire: long black flowing dresses and capes, lace
shawls and gloves, black or striped leggings, beaded
or shiny medal necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. A
variety of hats were worn by the Divas. Some were
pointy or slightly crooked black hats. Others were
wide brimmed with veils, flowers, feathers, ribbons, or
ornaments. Some were small with embroidery. They
all told a story. Some of the Divas took pictures while
on their brooms or on the witches' royal chair while
others took a picture holding their favorite goblet.
We enjoyed a delightful lunch of lasagna, pizza,
salad, and bread. We had different types of cake for
dessert. After our lunch, we played a few games.
Baskets were raffled and we sang happy birthday to
four of the Divas.
The much anticipated "witches dance" was led
by Joyce-Cabernet Contessa. This was one of the
highlights of the event because along with music there
were specific dance steps. There was much good humor
and fun as the Divas learned the dance steps. Who
knew we had so much talent within our group? We had
35 lovely ladies dressed as witches. It just goes to show
that no matter what age a girl is she will have the best
time playing dress up with other girls. The energy,
camaraderie, laughter, compliments, friendliness, and
just plain fun are always doubled when we take part in
the "Witches" event. ~ Irma Romero (Sugar Mama),
