58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2023 Well, by the time the ink dries on this holiday issue of the Breeze and it rests snuggly in everyones' newly-snuggleable mailboxes, the happy People of the Pickle will have long since broken out last year's leggings and stocked up on chapstick. Beaumont will play its part; ushering in the snap of winter's chill born on the high slopes of our neighboring saints Jacinto and Gorgonio. Time to touch base with what we call the "rest of the world," i.e., those who either haven't played yet, are too busy to have this much fun, or have decided their knees are made of thinly spread peanut brittle and they just can't risk anything more strenuous than a rousing game of bunco. How are you all? We've had a truly wonderful and raucously-fun year (and sincerely hope all of you have too). Our stalwart and infinitely competent tournament matrix-minder Kelly Vucinic put together fantastic contests in March, May, September, and November, while our endlessly ebullient Maggie Domico and the rest of the preeminent steering committee threw a Summer Splash BBQ and Winter Wing- Ding to beat the band. Good thing we don't have to breathalyze to get home! Our members have proudly represented the Four Seasons campus in outside-world games in exotic-sounding places like San Diego, Temecula, Hemet, Fallbrook, and even the wilds of Yucaipa. Between parties and tournaments and all the running around we do, who's got time for New Year's resolutions? (Just kidding. More dinking in '24.) To wit and vis-à-vis said soft game, we'd like to thank you, our neighbors, for putting up with our noise and zealotry for this game we so love. While we're sure it gets a little annoying being around people with such a positive outlook on life — kinda like hangin' out with Haley Mills as Pollyanna while maybe you're feeling a little more like Karl Malden on the Streets of San Fran — we really just want you all to live your best life. Thanks for waving nervously at us as we make our way through The Lodge with near-permanent smiles plastered on our faces, smelling of bug spray and sunscreen. We love you all, and hope to see you out on the pickleball courts soon. To all our neighbors and friends, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah, Blessed Kwanzaa, and joyous holiday season! ~ Julie McGrath Pickleball Our own Tony Greicius, Sun Laker Rick Romero, Yana Whittinghill, and David Martin play well into the wee hours across the Highland border Nothing like a crisp fall day to get your pickle going Kelly Vucinic and LynnRae Dupree busy winning medals at Pickleboo! in Yucaipa
