30 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2023 |
Modern day Disc Golf came to be in the early 60s. Early courses
were "object courses," using anything from trees, trash cans, light
poles, chicken wire baskets, pipes and fire hydrants as targets.
In 1976, Ed Headrick, most well known as the father of the game
of disc golf, formalized the rules, founded the Disc Golf Association
(DGA), the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), and
invented the first formal disc golf target with chains and a basket.
Aer planning an introductory Disc Golf Clinic on Nov. 3, our
Activities Director Kara Hardy initially figured about 40 people
would attend. Surprise! Over 200 active, interested and curious-
about-the-game people showed up. It's truly the talk of the town.
A fun time was had by all, and people have even said it "was the
best event ever!"
