| LIFE IN SOLERA | DECEMBER 2023 | 3 FROM THE BOARD By Marcia Casem The Board members hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving with families and friends. This was the beginning of our holiday season. There are at least four more holidays to be celebrated in December before New Year's Day of 2024. The first day of Hanukkah is Dec. 8. Next will be Christmas on Dec. 25, and then on Dec. 26 will be Kwanzaa. We wish everyone safe travels for you and your family and hope the spirit of these holidays renews their meanings and bring joy and peace to everyone. Below are important dates to know if you are planning on being a candidate for our Board of Directors for the 2024 – 2026 term. These dates are in accordance with the new Election Rules. Nov. 22: First notice of upcoming call for candidates, with the information required in that notice under 5103(b)(1): (A) The number of Board positions that will be filled at the election. (B) The deadline for submitting nominations. (C) The manner in which nominations can be submitted. (D) A statement informing members that if, at the close of the time period for making nominations, there are the same number or fewer qualified candidates as there are Board positions to be filled, then the Board of Directors may, after voting to do so, seat the qualified candidates by acclamation without balloting. Feb. 22: Deadline for nominations. Issue either: 1. An announcement that there are equal or less candidates than there are open seats and that the Board may declare them elected by acclamation; or 2. If there are more candidates than seats, send the announcement required by Section 5115(b), which requires announcing: (1) The date and time by which, and the physical address where, ballots are to be returned by mail or handed to the inspector or inspectors of elections (April 24, 2024) (2) The date, time, and location of the meeting at which ballots will be counted (April 25, 2024) (3) The list of all candidates' names that will appear on the ballot. [If acclamation] Set on next open Board agenda to declare candidates elected by acclamation pursuant to Civil Code Section 5103. Cancel Inspector of Election; cancel remaining below dates.
