| LIFE IN SOLERA | DECEMBER 2023 | 39 RV GROUP Seasons Greetings from your Solera RV Group. The RV Group is presently enjoying a camping trip at nearby Yucaipa Regional Park (December 3-8). Please come by and see us. We'll be in rv campsites 33 to 38. More on that later. For December's Life in Solera Magazine, I thought it would be fun to re-cap the group's camping trips for 2023. We started off January by accepting an invitation from the Newmar Kamping Klub to attend their annual Gathering in the Desert campout in Quartzsite, Arizona. It was five great days of boondocking camping (no hook-ups). The cost was only eighty dollars per RV and that included four dinners, several RV seminars and two nights of live entertainment. The camping sites were free because we were camping in the BLM short term visitor area six miles south of the town of Quartzsite. The weather cooperated, but it was a bit chilly at night. February saw the RV Group camping in beautiful Vail Lake KOA in Temecula, Calif. This is a great campground with full hook ups and lots of activities. Our group went to breakfast one day in Old Town Temecula. Some of our group members went wine tasting while some of us enjoyed a spirited game of miniature golf. As usual, food took center stage with a great pot luck. One night we all enjoyed the Carlson's street tacos. Richard and Joleen Carlson really know how to put on a great Taco Tuesday. Our spring campout was in May. The RV Group went to nearby Rancho Jurupa Regional Park in Jurupa Valley. Rancho Jurupa is a group favorite and only 30 minutes away from Solera. One day we went to Flabob Airport for breakfast. My wife Debbie made her famous Aebleskivers for breakfast on another day during the campout. Some of us ventured into Riverside to tour the famous Cheech Museum in downtown Riverside. No visit to the Riverside area can be considered complete without a stop at Ancho's restaurant for lunch or dinner. The homemade flour tortillas and salsa are the bomb! We took a break in the summer to allow our members to take their own RV trips. The darlings of our group (Bob and Dorothy Hoffeckter) traveled to Colorado and New Mexico. Some of our members took cruises during the summer. My wife and I took an RV trip to see the Redwoods in northern California. Other members went to Pechanga RV Park in Temecula. Huntington Beach was also a favorite camping adventure for some of our group members. For our fall campout as previously stated, we are camping as a group in nearby Yucaipa Regional Park in Yucaipa, Calif. Yucaipa Regional offers 42 full-hook RV campsites. Yucaipa Regional offers three stocked fishing lakes and plenty of hiking trails. As per our unofficial Solera camping rules, food takes center stage with the Carlsons doing their famous Taco Tuesday. We'll have another potluck. This time I'm going to try to re-create Marco Lopez's famous chili for the potluck. If the name sounds familiar, that's because it is. Marco Lopez was an actor on the hit TV show Emergency! In several background scenes, Marco is shown cooking his chili for the guys at fictional LA County Station 51. I hope I get it right this time. The Solera RV Group changed its meeting times for 2024. The monthly meetings will now be held on the second Friday of every month at 3 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our Solera residents. ~ Ron Monroe (909) 732-6139
