26 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2023 | e countdown is on. It's Holiday Concert time and the whole Choral Society is excited to present it to the community on Dec. 10 at 2 pm in Abravanel Hall. I hope you will be able to join us for the performance. One of the reasons that I know this will be one of our best concerts ever, is because of all the hard work being put in during our rehearsals by the singers and especially by our wonderful director. During the concert the audience only sees her back while she is directing, whereas the performers get to observe her animation and skilled guidance. It truly is a pleasure to sing under her direction. As I stated before, we can always use new singers, men, or women, so if you like to sing and spend time singing with a great bunch of people under the direction of a wonderful director, then please join us. Rehearsals are at 10:15 am every ursday and last until noon. You don't have to be a trained singer or performer. If you love to sing, we would love to have you. If you want to sit in on a rehearsal and decide if you are interested, that is alright also. We will be starting rehearsals for our Spring Concert in February. Please consider joining the Choral Society on Do Dues Day and experience the joy of music. It was great to see some new members, and we had great participation." is is our third year of "Presents for Pets," where we honor wish lists of Meals on Wheels clients with pets. is allows the clients to give holiday gis to their own pets — something they had not been able to do before we started this project. Paula King, a staff member from the San Marcos Meals on Wheels Center explained how all the coordination goes into making this event work. Ellen had already sent out to PLC members the wish lists from Meals on Wheels clients. One of our newer members, Maria McSweeeney had been helping with the Meals on Wheels program all year round. When she heard of our "Presents for Pets" three years ago, she jumped in to help - and was not even a PLC member back then. She collects calendars, notepads, and greeting cards for their birthday and holiday gi bags. When we prepare the gi bags for "Presents for Pets," Maria's hand writes a card for each person's gi bag, letting them know the gis come from pet lovers in OHCC. If you have calendars, note pads or greeting cards of any type, you can leave them at the front desk in an envelope marked for Maria McSweeney, or contact her directly at mjmread@aol.com or call her at (312) 505-2027. We will have an outdoor event on Fri., May 17, and details will be sent when plans are closer to completion. Ellen reminded those present that those wanting to join or renew for 2024 can avoid the rush of Do Dues Day, and simply drop their check ($6) for one person and $10 for two or more) at the Clubhouse.
