TOYS FOR TOTS By Rita Nastri
As I write this in early December (the 6th to be exact) to meet
the newsletter deadline, Major Ron Brown and I just finished
packing his SUV with 547 toys collected thus far. And we haven't
even pulled the boxes from the Lobby. We are heading to Camp
Pendleton for the distribution center there.
e Elf was overjoyed to again see the generosity of our Colony
neighbors who filled the Toys for Tots barrels multiple times with
beautiful gis for needy children.
I particularly want to thank the Ladies Racquet Club, the Bridge
Club, the residents of Corte Calanova (Moose Lane) and the
Sunshine Memorial Reception Committee who invited the Elf to
their December holiday parties. Both organizations really helped
the Elf stuff the boxes with their kind donations.
Marine Corps League, Detachment 1057, and the U. S. Marine
Corps Reserve thank you for your gis of unwrapped toys for
children of all ages. Knowing there are so many good causes out
there, I want to thank you for considering the Toys for Tots program
in your holiday giving this year. See you next November. And save
those beautiful gowns and tuxes for me come the summer.
e Meal Train is a volunteer program to assist members of our community
who have just returned from rehab or the hospital, or are recuperating from an
illness. We have over 100 volunteers who will assist you by bringing meals while
you recuperate. ere is no cost to you or your family.
is program was started in September 2017. To date, we have supplied over 650
meals to Colony residents recuperating from various medical problems. It is run
strictly by volunteers and yes, we can use more of them! To volunteer or notify us
of someone in need of meals, please call me at the above number or Gloria Carroll
at 586-764-0607.
