We feasted on our potluck items, where Robert's chili and cornbread proved to be a great success, along with all the other creative and delicious fare. en we all took to the dance floor, hoping to burn off a few calories! We will be dark the rest of December, but look for us on Do Dues Day. January will see us starting a new class, so grab your dancing shoes. Square dance is not just a toe-tapping shindig, it's a lively gathering where everyone becomes your friend. It's a community hoedown where you will be do-si-do-ing your way into a lively dance. Our caller will lead you through a series of calls, and you'll be dancing in very little time. Look for our flyer in your tubes, and come on down to Abravanel Hall for loads of fun! ~ Written by: Valerie ompson Ballroom Dance e benefits of ballroom dancing are well documented. According to the Health Fitness Revolution magazine in their article titled "Top 10 Health Benefits of Ballroom Dancing," there are plenty of keys to happiness, and dancing is definitely one of them. e article also states that ballroom dancing is a wonderful way for people from all walks of life to get in shape while also releasing their creative juices. is goes past merely benefiting your body - to also benefiting your state of mind and social connections. Dancing is a great social activity, and it has been proven that socializing regularly can have vast health benefits on self-esteem, stress, and even help prevent the onset of dementia. Learning dance routines can enhance cognitive function. It requires memory, focus, and mental agility as individuals remember and execute specific steps and patterns. e club holds monthly dances, weekly dance lessons, and weekly practice sessions. Our dances are generally held on the second Friday of the month. Dress is casual. Join us for our next dance which will be on Fri., Feb. 9 in Abravanel Hall. is will be our Valentine's Dance. Details will be forthcoming. e weekly dance lessons will resume in February. Details will be forthcoming. ey are held each week on Wednesdays. Beginner lessons are at 2 pm and Intermediate lessons are at 3 pm in Abravanel Hall. Cost is $10 for both members and non- members. Pay at the door (no reservations required, just come). Carrie Kloss, a champion dancer, and professional instructor will provide the dance instruction. e Lesson Review and Open Practice sessions will resume aer we resume lessons in 2024. ey will be held in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm. Experienced OHCC dancers review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. You can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. e party is FREE, just drop in. ese parties are open to all residents of OHCC and guests of members. e annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances and lessons. To join, just drop your check off at the front desk.
