18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2024 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports January is here and it's time to start a new year at Sun Lakes. In 2023 we had over 300 houses repainted. We anticipate at least 300 or more houses will be repainted in 2024. Our CC&Rs require that stucco must be painted every 16 years and trim must be painted every four years. The Master Architectural Committee (MAC) is still having problems convincing some residents that if they are going to repaint their house (stucco or trim) they must choose a color from the Sun Lakes approved paint chart. There are over 140 approved paint colors on the Sun Lakes approved paint chart. Any painting of stucco or trim must use one of these 140 approved colors. In 2023, the MAC denied over 50 paint applications because the homeowner chose a paint color that was not on the Sun Lakes approved paint chart. There are 3,350 homes in Sun Lakes and 3,350 opinions on what color their house should be painted. The MAC's purpose is to preserve the established harmonious design of the community as a means to protect and enhance property values. To accomplish that the Sun Lakes CC&Rs provide that all paint colors must be from the Sun Lakes approved color chart. The MAC has not approved any paint colors that are not on the Sun Lakes approved paint chart. We will not approve any paint colors not on the Sun Lakes approved paint chart in the future. The Sun Lakes Master Board has routinely denied appeals requesting a paint color that is not on the Sun Lakes approved paint color chart. If a homeowner paints their house an unapproved paint color they may be required to repaint their house. If you want to change the paint color of your house my suggestion is that you tour the neighborhood until you see a color you like. Write down the address of that house and call Planning and Compliance. Planning and Compliance can tell you what approved paint colors, that house has used. Let's keep Sun Lakes attractive and use the approved paint color chart. If you don't request unapproved colors I can promise you, you won't have a brilliant blue or canary yellow house next door to you. ~ Roy Nierman, Chairman, Master Architectural Committee Master Architectural Happy New Year! The top three resolutions made each year are: living healthier, personal improvement and losing weight. "Anything worthwhile is never without obstacles." Good luck to everyone with their resolutions. The Recreation Committee has been very busy the past few months with all the activities and is gearing up for a great 2024. Everyone agreed that the Decorating Committee did a fabulous job decorating the Main Clubhouse for Christmas. The Holiday Home Decoration contest was a great success with 17 entrants. I hope you all were able to get out to see the homes in all their splendor. A good time was had by all at the New Year's Eve Extravaganza. Everyone was dressed to the nines and the meal was outstanding. We welcome new members Christine Chase, Connie Cutner, Raelene Kretchman, and Toi Johnson. They will be a great asset to our already hard-working committee. On Feb. 8, we will be having a Blood Drive from 9 am until 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Please donate if you are able. It's the blood on the shelves that helps in emergencies. Our first entertainment event of the year will be a 60s, 70s and 80' concert on Feb. 17 in the Ballroom at 6 pm. Purchase your tickets from the Recreation Department and plan to attend this fun event. The Number 1 song from the 60s was Hey Jude by the Beatles. The best musical artist of the 70s was Bob Dylan and the most popular group of the 80s was U2. Don't forget about Evenings on the Veranda held the first Wednesday of the month, May through October, from 5 to 8 pm. Recreation Advisory
