| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2024 | 51 We wish the entire Sun Lakes community, residents and staff, A HAPPY NEW YEAR! A brand-new year to fill up and Sun Lakes is the place to do it with so many activities, events, and social groups from which to choose. As one of those choices, the Garden Club stands out and January begins membership renewal and new member registration. Before we share some of our planned activities, we must express a big THANK YOU to Bonnie Jensen, Dennise Pennington, Janis Rice and their many helpers for the December Winter Wonderland Luncheon. It was beautiful. Thanks to the decorating committee; entertaining with the delightful Banning High School Drama Club's presentation of The Elf on the Shelf Must Die; and delicious thanks to Chef Chris and his staff. We were also privileged to honor past President Joe Formino and Club Historian Betty Neese for their many, many years of dedication to the success of the Garden Club. Honorees were presented with a Lifetime Membership and a commemorative gift. Even more, there was a celebratory announcement of our 30- year anniversary of participation in the Penny Pines Program. This year's contributions totaled nearly $3,000 to restore more than 43 acres of national forest. At our first meeting of the year on Jan. 10, we will learn about the care and feeding of roses from our guest speaker Gary Wagner, President of Raincross Rose Society of Riverside and his associates. However, there is more to us than interesting and informative talks. This is the year of our Bi-Annual Garden Tour. Every other year, several Sun Lakes resident gardens are featured in a self- guided tour. A date in May or early June is yet to be set, but look for announcements toward the end of March or early April. Our members also enjoy the friendly social aspects of our club. At every meeting we take a refreshment break that accommodates time for chatting, coffee, tea, and oh-so-yummy treats from Bob the Baker. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced). Dues are only $15 a year. Our President Beverly Agner at (951) 306-7379, is always ready to answer your questions, but if you have membership questions, call one of our membership Co-Chairs: Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584 or Linda Powers at (951) 769-3101. Garden Club How is your portfolio doing? Are you satisfied with your investment advisor? Would you like to feel comfortable trading stocks and possibly even options? Come join the Sun Lakes Investor Group. Some of our members invest on their own while others have advisors along with overseeing some of their own investments. We meet on Mondays from 4 to 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The Investor Group is led by Ajit Desai and Allen Jaszcar. Ajit has been trading for several decades. He follows and teaches the CANSLIM methodology for stock selection and trading that was pioneered by William O'Neill, the founder of Investors Business Daily. We discuss stocks that our members are interested in, growth stocks that offer good returns, when to buy, when to sell, etc. Ajit also incorporates option trading to enhance portfolio returns. We look at and talk about real time numbers and pertinent information over the internet during our meetings. We are tuned into market trends, and although no one has a crystal ball, it's important to have information to make wise or at least informed decisions. We do not invest as a group, nor do we discuss dollar amounts of members' portfolios or trades. That's your business, not ours. If this piques your "interest," come visit. It is a Sun Lakes Group, so there are no dues or bylaws. Joining us may turn out to be the best investment of your time, which could lead to superior returns on your portfolio. For info, call or text Allen Jaszcar at (951) 450-3216. Sun lakes investor group Arlene's Breakfast Club is a wonderful gathering of Sun Lakes ladies. We meet at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse Restaurant the second Thursday of each month. We have a variety of speakers on various topics and support our local veterans. A buffet breakfast is prepared thanks to Thomas and Chef Chris for $18. No dues, just pay for your meal. In December, we travel to Billie Reeds in Palm Springs for a festive time enjoying food, singing, and a gift exchange. We must provide Thomas with an accurate head count so enough food is prepared, so please RSVP. Call Patti Donitini at (951) 769-3271 for more information and to RSVP. Arlene's Breakfast Club
