16 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JANUARY 2024 By Annette Hillis, Resident Myrna Rohr, a retired educator and current Solera Diamond Valley resident, has met many people, traveled all over the world, accomplished many things, and it is no wonder. "I enjoy life. I like people," she says. Rohr's zest for living and for loving new challenges were evident in her long and storied career as a teacher, Principal, and Coordinator of Educational Services in the Hemet Unified School District. When she moved over to the San Jacinto USD, she had the privilege of being Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Acting Superintendent for a while. "I wore the hat of where I was at the time and I've enjoyed every position I've had," she admits. Rohr was not only successful in her individual pursuits, but she also reveled in helping everyone around her reach their potential. Having a positive impact on the lives of others and making connections were and still are important to her; watching people succeed. She has always liked the "camaraderie of collaboration" and does not believe in "power" as much as she embraces "empowerment" and all it entails. Another belief is that her daughter, Jennifer, a Doctor of Internal Medicine, inherited the empowerment philosophy not only from her but from her late husband, Chuck. She maintains that Chuck was her biggest supporter and encouraged her to do things she wasn't initially going to do. Rohr enjoys living here and is thankful for what Hemet has given her – a sense of community. Something that has given her additional satisfaction is the fact that former students and co-workers have kept in touch with her. "I have a blessed life to be able to do the things that I do and have done," she says. The SDV resident muses that free time is spent doing "whatever I want." However, the specifics are mind-boggling. Rohr is involved with the Soroptimists (a volunteer organization that aims to improve the lives of women and girls), on the SDV Recreation Committee and the Mt. San Jacinto College Foundation and is on the Board of the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery. Additionally, she loves to travel, has been to all 50 states, as well as to Japan, Costa Rica, St. Thomas, and Europe. She enjoys taking walks and going to the gym. She is home "by appointment only." "Don't fence me in. I love adventure and in making a difference," she shares. A perfect combination. An Empowered Woman LISTEN - CARE - SHARE Submitted by Linda Weiss Resident "In three ways is kindness greater than charity. Charity is done with money; kindness can be either with one's person or one's money. Charity is for the poor; kindness can be done for either poor or the rich. Charity is for the living; kindness can be done for the living or the dead" Sukkah, Talmud
