She is a Master Examiner for DIVIDA Dance Vision and has many years of experience of providing dance instruction to all levels of dancers from beginners to dance instructors. The dance being taught changes each month. The following is the class schedule through July this year. February, Swing; March, Foxtrot; April, West Coast Swing; May, Waltz; June, Rumba; July, Night Club Two Step. The dance being taught in February is East Coast Swing. This dance traces its roots to Lindy Hop (also called Jitterbug). It was originally danced in the 1920s and 1930s to big band music. In the 1940s it became a ballroom dance called Eastern Swing that eventually was changed to be called, East Coast Swing. It is a fun, upbeat, non-progressive dance that is characterized by its bounce, back break (rock step), and swing hip action. East Coast Swing is best suited to being danced to the 1950s rock and roll style of music although you can dance it to a wide range of music and music tempos making it a popular dance for new dancers. Lesson Review and Practice Sessions are held in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm each week on Mondays. Marvin and Lynn Wheeler who are very experienced dancers review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. After the review, you can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. The event is FREE, just drop in. These sessions are open to all residents of OHCC and guests of members. The annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances. To join, just drop your check off at the front desk. This time, come with us to the Wild, Wild West, where Bad Bart and the sheriff fight it out. Meet at the Tumbleweed Salon, to watch as Miss Dolly's girls entertain the crowd. Wear your best western outfits and join in the fun. You will see the best of tap, jazz, Hawaiian and belly dancing, along with great songs and our mustached gentlemen and their horses. The shows will be on March 8 and 9, and tickets will go on sale in the middle of this month. Watch for the posters for more information, and don't wait to buy your tickets, as the shows sell out quickly. Ocean Hills Dance Troupe
