Newbies
Newbies is the official welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country
Club residents (homeowners and renters). We have quarterly
gatherings where new and established residents can meet, mingle,
and get to know each other. The gatherings are loosely structured
and provide new residents an opportunity to introduce themselves.
Club representatives are available to promote their clubs. Our goal is
to have you walk away with new friends and a feeling of community.
This group is for residents only and is not open to guests.
The Dec. 16 gathering was attended by 87 people, of whom 47 were
brand new residents! Welcome to all of you. Judy Widdes, who moved
here from Mission Viejo on Oct. 19, is shown introducing herself to
the room. Judy's daughter-in-law is also named Judy Widdes, which
sometimes causes confusion.
Many new residents came from other cities in southern California,
but mother-daughter duo Carol and Joyce Eaton, who moved here
from Connecticut, won the prize for being from the farthest away.
Two other new residents moved here from Washington state. Bob
and Fran McAdams (married for 62 years!) and Steve and Kathleen
Hitt both won bottles of wine for being the very newest residents.
Vincent Tricario is shown perusing the well-stocked potluck buffet
table. Many thanks to Newbies volunteers Jan Kawal and Ellen Quinn
for organizing all the food donations so beautifully. Jill Lemons,
representing the OHCC SERT Club, educated the group on her
service organization's mission. We encourage all Newbies to become
involved in the community and explore opportunities to be of service
to others.
The next Newbies gathering will be held on March 2 from 4 to 7
pm in Abravanel Hall. Gatherings are also planned for June 22, Sept.
7 and Dec. 22. Details will be publicized well in advance. Do not miss
these opportunities for socializing and making new friends!
