32 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2024 |
The Ocean Hills Photography Club has been around for a very
long time, dating back to the days of film cameras and darkrooms.
Nowadays most photographs are taken on smartphones, but some of
us still enjoy using an actual camera.
We meet once a month on the third Thursday of the month, at 1 pm
in the Lamia room. Sometimes we get bumped, and sometimes we
decide to do an offsite photo shoot. Most years we don't meet in July
and August because those are prime vacation months.
We often have slideshows of our work, giving each member an
opportunity to show their best work and to appreciate and comment
on others' best work.
We also often have guest speakers, some from our community and
some from outside the community, who will help us learn about the
art of photography, how to compose photos, things to be mindful of
while shooting, how to handle less than ideal lighting, and so forth.
We also learn about the nuts and bolts of photography, including such
things as how to back up your photos, and how to edit photos using
various free software, how to share photos with others via various
free and almost free techniques.
As smart phones with fabulous cameras are taking over the
world, we try to share knowledge of the ever-changing technical
environment and help you figure out how to take and work with
photos on your phone. And we share knowledge as to how to back
up your photos from your phone so that if it stops working or is no
longer in your possession the pictures will still be around.
To join the Photo Club, write a check to Ocean Hills Photo Club for
$10. Be sure the address and phone info are correct, and we need
your email address. Drop it off at the Clubhouse front desk and ask
for it to be placed in the Photo Club envelope.
All experience levels are welcome. If you have a lot of experience,
we may ask you to share some of your knowledge. ~ Written by Jim
