We are off to a flying start to 2024 after hearing and experiencing Robert Genat's exciting photographic journey with warbirds from past eras. Many meeting participants felt as if they were in a flight simulator during his presentation. Thank you again Robert. Many also wondered where they could find some of Robert's books or photographs. Robert has his own website: https://www. robertgenat.com where you can find photos of all sorts including hot rods and muscle cars. Most of his books are out of print, but used copies can be found on Amazon by searching for "Robert Genat." As for flying starts, your Board of Directors was ecstatic with the great Do Dues Day response. A big welcome to our new members and another huge thanks to those who renewed their membership. Our loyal and expert Treasurer, Smitty, is still tabulating and cross- checking the results, but we have consistently established ourselves as one of the largest social groups in OHCC. For good reason too, if there ever was a community with a strong veteran presence and support, it's none other than OHCC. Thank you. The Village Vets is open to all. Our vets love talking with other vets, but we absolutely love talking with others. It helps us hone our "war stories." So, what's the rest of the year like? We are still making some final arrangements, but there are some key Village Vets sponsored events to add to your calendar: March 28 General Meeting: Featured Speakers are Tim Mathues, San Diego County Veteran Outreach Coordinator and our own Colonel Patricia Battles, USAF-Retired, and Village Vets Vice Commander. May 23 General Meeting and Hot Dog Extravaganza: Featured Group is the Foundation for Woman Warriors. July 25 General Meeting: A surprise speaker but we must get final confirmation first. Sept. 27 Off-Site to the Miramar Air Show: This is tentative as we need to make sure we have the logistics in place to support our group. Nov. 11 Veterans Day. Dec. 7, Village Vets Holiday Party. Of course, there are other key dates that celebrate and honor our veteran community. Village Vets leadership will keep you informed via The Bugle and our website https://jackshabel.wixsite.com/ village-veterans when these events come up. Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill!
